Apogee GiO, GarageBand 11, expression pedal configuration

Currently using an Apogee GiO with GarageBand 11.

Is it possible to assign a wah pedal to an external expression pedal? If so, what is the procedure to map this function out so that the GarageBand 11 wah pedals are linked to my Yamaha FC-7 expression pedal?

Thank you.

You are able to use your expression pedals with certain effects that allow for volume and wah effects, but the pedal is not customizable in Garageband. You will have more flexible options in Logic or Mainstage.

Thanks for the timely reply.

Rather disappointing that Apple's GarageBand does not allow this sort of customization with their most recent update for Maverick. Who wants to control a wah pedal with their mouse!? There's no musical feel for that let alone playing live and in in the moment.

Did some sleuthing over at Apogee's site. They do not really provide any concrete information as to what software the custom expression pedal mapping is geared towards either. Their manual sort of glazes over this when addressing GarageBand which is rather annoying.

Whole purpose of this was to be able to utilize the "wham" pedal in GarageBand 11 but now I will just return my expression pedal and put the money towards a real Whammy pedal.

Seeing how far evolved Garageband is now, the trickle down effect of gaining something like pedal mapping/customization like its big brother Logic is a an overlooked flaw. While I enjoy GarageBand 11 for all its current upgrades, it could use an added element like wah pedal mapping so to better utilize Apogee's GiO. Which is in its own right a flagship pedalboard for GarageBand.

Well after a bit of tooling around in GarageBand 11 (without a clue what I was doing) I have discovered I can assign an assortment of wah or expression pedals to my external Yamaha FC-7 expression pedal. The trick is how they are then set up in the virtual GarageBand stompbox chain which then can be switched on or off through the Apogee Gio.

Takes some messing around but it can be done. As well I have an external BOSS volume, BOSS PW-10 V-Wah, Radial BigShot and a Wampler Pinnacle pedal paired up from the Apogee GiO guitar input for the sake of having non moddled effects to call upon. My guitar's cable runs from the guitar jack into the Wampler then into the Radial BigShot, Boss wah and volume pedals and onwards into the GiO.

This setup is then complimented with the separate external Yamaha FC-7 expression pedal that is linked to a selected GarageBand wah and the whammy pedal. All while tightly put together in the virtual pedal board.

Took some effort but it all seems to work, until the next GarageBand update, :- / .

Just wish there was more concise instructions on the use of pedals with an external expression pedal vs having to work it out on blind ambition and faith.

Alls well that plays well I guess.

Now young guitar players, witness the full power of this armed and operational pedal board... insert maniacal laugh here.
