Can a Canadian publishing an iBook submit a W8-BEN form so that 30% tax is not withheld for the U.S. government?

Canada has a treaty with the U.S. for taxation purposes. Before I begin the process of publishing an iBook, I would like to know how Apple's royalty process works. Can I submit a W8-BEN form to them and prevent the usual tax withholding of 30% to the U.S. government so that I only need to pay Canadian taxes?

Bad news! PDFs can not be imported into iBooks Author. Only Chapters created using MS Word or Apple Pages. I am not familiar with CreateSpace or their requirements.

iBooksAuthor requires the text and images to be set within one of the free templates or your own customised template. Your Graphis guy should be able to supply you with a conversion from PDF - but its more likely he will have created the book on MS Word already, in which case you ask for that and adivise you need text and images.

IF he/she can supply the original in MS Word, you can import it into iBooksAuthor - but I doubt it will convert as you think it should.

While for me and others, stripping out a PDF and re-assembling into iBA although tedioous - is at least an option.

iBA is really quite easy to use IF you take the time and trouble to read up and practice before setting out on your masterpiece.

Start be reading the help files and have iBA open with the Basic Template and just move or change things!

I and others here will more than happy to help you as you need it.

Its not as daunting as it sounds... its like Powerpoint or similat where text and images can be added to a page.

Ohhhh! Thanks for this information. I did doubt that it would be so simple that I'd be able to use my files directly.

So - I guess I'll just finalize my books on CreateSpace (looks like paperback will be the only realistic option), then I'll begin playing around with the iBA template.

My graphics artist has extensive experience with various formatting options, so he may know how to go about making the conversion so that it turns out properly.

I will take your suggestion of reading the help files. Thank you very much for your offer of help. That is very kind of you, and I probably might need suggestions from you and others as I proceed.

Thanks again for everything.

Sharon, while your printed book is being processed and published, you will have time to to learn about iBA, sadly Apple do not create manuals or guides for software. If you look in the iBooks store there are many free iBA guides, one I suggest is "Create your first book using iBooks Author" it is from iBook-Widgets.com, it was updated a few weeks back and it is much improved - and one of the best guides I have seen... and its free!

Use this and any similar guides there are quite a few which free downloads and all have a different way of putting the information over.

Without the added pressure of trying to get a book into the iBooks store ASAP, you will find the learning curve much smoother.

With more knowledge of iBA, you will find it easy to place your text and images into the right template.

Good Luck with your printed book....

Thanks again for all this info.

A while back I did download a guide called "Learn - iBooks Author Edition". I glanced over it and had planned to go through everything carefully before beginning. But I'll definitely also get "Create your first book using iBooks Author" if you've found it to be one of the best guides you've seen.

You're right - I can proceed at a slower pace with this. And part of all of it is enjoying all the new things to learn along the way. Kind of like a trip being also about the journey - not just the destination.

So - you have been a wealth of information. Thanks again.
