I have movies and shows on my imac that I sometimes would want to watch on my ipad air. How do I do that?

I know there has to be some way that when I start a movie on my iMac, and then want to finish it in a different room on my ipad air. I can't figure it out with airplay, my ipad is not in the list in the drop down on the iMac. Drop down menu says this... Airplay Display:disconnected.

Connect to airplay display: AppleTV (616).

Open display preferences.

I am totally confused and looked through the discussions and really couldn't find what I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You do realise that you cant airplay stuff from your mac to your ipad..

go on itunes and just sync the movies to your ipad...

if the movie is not on itunes you will need to change it to an Mp4 format to be coompatible with itunes.

make the media into a compatbile format if it's not already

add the media to itunes

from here you can sync the media to the ipad

or you can make a shared itunes lib and the ipad can access the media when the computer is on and the ipad and the computer is on the same network

Actually, I didn't realize that, but I had a suspicion. So if my iMac is either off, or I am 400 miles away from it, unless I have already synced the movies or TV shows to my iPad, I cannot watch them on my iPad, correct?

Is this kinda on the same line as what rameez said? If I haven't already synced the movies from my iMac to my iPad, and/or if I am 400 miles away from my IMac, I'm basically out of luck? I guess I thought I could do it on my iPad, the same way as on my AppleTV, by going to 'purchased' and watching from there (kinda like streaming, right?).

These are all movies I have purchased from iTunes. Can't I watch them from iCloud on my iPad, if they weren't synced to it?
