Moving widgets into the Dock

I am using OSX 10.5.8 and would like to add the gmail widget (blue stamp design with a picture of a queen on it) to my bottom dock.

Does anyone know how to do this?

It appears on the screen when I right click my mouse (along with other widgets), but I can't drag it down to the dock. It will move, but just sits on top of the dock and doesn't 'squeeze' itself in.

Thank you for your help. It would just make it easier to see, if it was in the dock, visible all the time.

Still down today, do you still have the original .dmg/.zip/.pkg or whatever it was?

Dear BD,

I don't remember where I originally downloaded the widget from, if that is what you mean.

If it is any help, I found another site:

As I said, the widget works fine. I just want to place it in the Dock (instead of the Dashboard, where it is not).

Sorry about that. I found it, but did not try to download it. After I received your message, I tried it and got the same message as you.

I then searched for another and found this:

I am not sure how to download this.

By the way, I remembered where the original came from. It is in my widget list which appears when I press the X on the left hand side of the Dock.

Susan, just thinking... it may not have a recognizable name or even a .edgt on the end, what all files do you have in...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Widgets

I have...

Aquarium

Mickey_Mouse_Widget

DashQuit2.1.wdgt

iStat Pro.wdgt

Might double click on each one until gMail Checker opens.

The above 6 also have a red minus ➖ sign on their right side.

That's for Deleting that item.

Did you ever use Find any File to search for...

With a space? Hold alt key when selecting find to Find All.

Just checking, are you aware there are at least 3 Library folders?

One at root of the drive, one in System at root of the drive, then one in each User's Home folder.

Widgets for everyone woukd be in...

/Library/Widgets/

Widgets installed for one user would be in...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Widgets

Or the shorcut to express that...

~/Library/Widgets

I'm afraid that, although you have given me a lot of help, this is becoming too complicated.

I think I will just leave it as it is. All it means is that I have to open the Dashboard. Not too much trouble.
