IMAP with Mail showing up in local folders?

I set up Mail.app with my IMAP account, and for some reason my new mail shows up in little white folders instead of the usual Inbox. Is there any way to get the usual Inbox behavior?

Powermac G5 Dual 2.7, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Where do these little white folders appear in Mail? Does Mail still display the Inbox nonetheless?

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains -- you may disguise any mailbox names you wish to keep private.

Inside there are:

INBOX.imapbox > Info.plist
mydomain.com > myuser > inbox.imapbox, info.plist
Info.plist

I don't understand why its downloading my mail to these local folders instead of showing them in the usual Inbox

I don't understand. Are you saying that the items present at the root level of the IMAP account folder are

INBOX.imapbox
mydomain.com
Info.plist

???

And you haven't answered my request for clarification as to what are the little white folders that you were talking about...

Yes these items appear right in my IMAP-blah@blah folder. The little white folders appear under the inbox, trash, etc in my left hand view. Apparently they represent local folders on my computer, I will screenshot when I get home.
