There is 7.82 gb of "other" data on my iPhone. How can I get rid of this? It's taking up a lot of space

I plugged in my iphone today and saw that the "other" portion of my used space was at 7.82 gb! I'm not sure what this is exactly, but how do I get rid of it or make it saller because it is hoging up a ton of the space on my phone!

Note: I have been noticing that whenever I plug in my iphone to my Mac to sync it, the "other" data gets larger, just slightly. Is that normal?
