Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Constantly getting ads on safari/firefox/chrome. Brother downloaded a file and have tried EVERYTHING to find this malware but cannot. Can a factory reset help at all?

Alright so a few days ago my brother used my laptop to download Super Bowl 48 (huge seahawk fans). He torrented it offline, however now whenever I use Safari/Firefox/Chrome I get CONSTANT ads and pop ups. I have tried everything. Clearing extensions, uninstalling everything he did, scanned my computer with Clamxav, iAntivirus and even a free trial from Norton's latest software. Nothing, yet the problem still remains. From what I've heard/read, if I take it to the apple store they cannot help. Is a factory reset the only way to go?

User uploaded file Links are double underlined in green, and when I move the mouse over them

they pop up into an ad

This is the homepage of www.bleacherreport.com full of ads that were never ever there before. (2014 ford, play now/download/ video on left). User uploaded file

Simply very annoying and I have noticed a slower speed to my computers processing of webpages. please please please help!

Hi Linc Davis,

I've read every single word in this thread and I'm not sure I understood.

I had the exact same problem with Harford3. My sister downloaded something from torrent and I started to get the ads and pop ups from the green highlighted words.

I've downloaded the Etresoft and a report was generated but I have no idea what it means.

Here it is:

A few months ago I did everything as was said here and it worked 100%. Then a few days ago I downloaded new updates for mac os and updated safari. right after that online ads came back. So I removed those ad files from my macbook and I accidentally emptied the trash before I restarted macbook, so after restarting online ads are still showing up. Can you please tell me what to do and how to fix it.

Linc Davis,

I need your help!

I have the same exact issue as Harford3 but my computer is MicroSoft Window 7; I'm not sure on how to go about searching for the mentioned folders and delete them.

I know this is an Apple thread, but do you mind explaining the steps for Window users?

Thank you soooo very much for your help,

Aziz

You should start you own thread and not thread-jack someone else's (it only confuses things, because it is actually rare that a thread-jacker really has the same problem).

You have a lot of 3rd party additions for only 4GB of RAM. You should cut back.

You have an anti-virus package on your system, which to date, has NEVER been a good idea. They just cause performance problems, kernel panics, and interfere with normal Mac OS X operations.

You most likely do not need the Maxtor software, as Macs are perfectly capable of reading external disks on their own.

Constantly getting ads on safari/firefox/chrome. Brother downloaded a file and have tried EVERYTHING to find this malware but cannot. Can a factory reset help at all?
