Anybody have a possible virus due to MPlayer X?

I downloaded something called MPlayer X that was supposed to help me gain access to the game Pinkadelic Pursuit (Pink Panther game for my son (-; ). Now it keeps popping up, even though it's in the trash (and, of course, it didn't help me view the game /-: ).

Has anybody else experienced this problem? If not, does anyone know how to check to see if you have a virus (then how do you go about removing it)?

Thanks for any help! I know that I was an idiot to download it (what you won't do for your kids (-; ) !

Hi all,

My Mac was affected by this malware too when I inadvertently clicked on a fake link to download MPlayer X while looking for videos! Before finding this post, I've tried eliminate the malware by using Sophos (http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/118117.aspx). On one hand, it has detected part of the daemons and launches mentioned in the link posted by sammajane - which I could check after reading it - and I could deleted them. On the other hand, the frameworks weren't captured by Sophos. Although all the threats were supposedly detected and eliminated, the unwanted ads and pop-ups messing up Safari's pages still stayed there. So, fortunately, with the complete list in that post I could remove the other "thieves". Now everything is working fine again.

Long life to the community!

Thank you !

CBS All Access has this, and a fake "Adobe Flash Update" pop-up as well! 😠 The Flash update's fake because the first time I saw the pop-up there, I went straight to Adobe's site and downloaded the update from them, which is what you're supposed to do - and I kept getting it anyway.

I tried writing CBS to let them know they were pushing malware with their ad network - and never got an answer back, and no change to the constant "Download this NOW!" So - no more CBS All Access.
