Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
Maybe these can help. At least it helped me.

connect device to iTunes.

-

go to summary tab

scroll down to options

and tick mark "Manually Manage Music and Videos"

click "Apply" on the bottom.

To drag and drop music to iTunes 12.1.2.27 you must do the following:

1.Connect you device to iTunes.

2.Select MusicTab from iTunes

3.Drag and drop your songs there;

4.Select all your songs (CTRL+A for Windows users)

5.Right click on the songs and select Add to Playlist -> Your device name

Just select all, copy, then paste to destination.

This solution does not work. There is a more widely known problem between itunes 11.1.5.5 and Windows 8.1. iTunes is broken. It will not even open. Apple hasn't acknowledged this yet. They always take forever.

The thing is the first time I added music to my iDevice, I just dragged and dropped it...

I haven't change my iTunes version since that time.

But somehow it does not work anymore... So annoying.

Same here.. was able to drag & drop music folders to iTunes and add music to my iPhone 4S.. just updated my 4S from iOS 8.1 to 8.1.1 (no changes to iTunes) and now it's stopped working. I did get a message before it stopped working, something about duplicate files (???)

I was skeptical, but I tried batesm0t3l's suggestion and it worked for me, on a mac in itunes 12.0.126.

I did not go back and re-enable sharing because I don't use it, and because now I know that causes this problem...

Then try the orher method.

1.Connect your device to computer,

2.open iTunes,

3.go to Music tab from the upper left corner,

4.then drag and drop songs there,

5.select the songs from that list that you want to add to your device, then right click on them, select Add to playlist->Your device name

Thank you for the solution batesm0t3l. This was insanely not great as iTunes was not always adding music correctly for me after an update several moons ago. Now it's all back to normal, 3 OS installs later, all from a simple tick box. Thanks again!

I'm on windows 7 64 bit and as soon as I updated to the latest itunes all my playlists dissapeared and I can't drag and drop songs. The only thing I can do is add file to library ONE SONG at a time. Or sync my entire music library, which I dont want to do... Ive asked everywhere and no one can solve it. I've also seen other people who had their phones bricked by the new itunes. *** is going on, I've been using itunes since the first iphone and this has never happened.

In the right side scroll down and you will see the Manually manage music and videos check box.

After you check the box click Apply.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3

To resolve it from within Itunes I did : Edit, Preferences, Sharing.

I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"

Click OK.

Closed iTunes/

Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.

I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.

Works fine now.
