Found it:

you have enough Ram.

you have enough free disk space.

a beautiful machine !

But you have to do some cleaning:

1. Your host file is messed up, we come back later at that.

2. You have to uninstall everything that has to do with Rim/blackberry. Problems in Mavericks.

3. You have to uninstall CleanMyMac: MANY problems:

http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-2

this will leave some remnants, but we will get rid of those afterwards.

4. Go to SystemPreferences / Users&Groups / LoginItems:

remove all entries: with the minus sign underneath (whatever some info says about checking the lines, nonsense: you need the minus sign underneath). This does not uninstall, just makes that the apps are not started at startup and thus running always.

Restart the mac.

5. Uninstall the Memeo application.

6. Uninstall (systemPreferences) Growl and Paragon NTFS.

7. Go to MacintoshHD /Library/IntenetPlugins/ folder and in there delete:

AdobeAAMdetect, the two AdobePDFViewer plugins, Sliverlight, Java applet plugin.

8. Go to MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents/ folder: delete the com.seagate...p.list

9. Go to MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchDaemons/ folder: delete the com.adobe.switchboard...p.list

Restart again. Empty the Trash bin.

Now some questions:

a. Do you have HP equipment?

b. Do you need the Logos application?

c. Do you have epson equipment?

This may lead to some more cleaning.

Hi there Lex! Ok, I went through and did everything you instructed me to do. I think I got everything. I used to have HP and Epson equipment but not anymore. The Logos application I do use and need too. I went ahead and ran another EtreCheck for you too. Thanks again! Look forward to hearing from you again.

In the same order as before:

2. is still there: we remove it:

Go to MacintoshHD /Library/Extensions/ folder:

delete com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt

Then go to MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents/ folder and delete the two com.rim.... entries.

3. Go to yournameHomefolder /Library/LaunchAgents/ folder, and delete the three com.macpaw.... entries.

a. Go to MacintoshHD /Library/StarupItems/ folder and delete the HP entry.

c. Go to MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents/ folder and delete com.epson.epw.agent.plist.

Now do the restart, and then empty the Trashbin.

Should be better already.

a last question:

d. do you use CS5 (photoshop)?

Mar 24, 2014 3:06 PM in response to Lexiepex

The Battery Information says that there is no battery installed: did you (or somebody else ever open the mac?

If not: you may have warrantee still: in the EU it is two years after buy date.

In any case you have to make an appointment with Apple service: they have to change the battery, about $150-175, normaly you can wait for it. They do not sell the battery only so that you can do it yourself (a bit tricky).

About the files you could not find:

2. Look in MacintoshHD /System /Library / Extensions (be very careful there)

3. You looked in the wrong Library:

it should be the user library:

Look here:

MacintoshHD /Users / yourname / Library /LaunchAgents /

Then empty the Trash bin and make a new etrecheck list.

As for the battery, no one has ever open the mac before. I know it is not under warranty any more, it's beeen about 3 years since the buy date. Would it be worth a try to open the mac, clean the connecting point, and put back in?

My mac has been running a lot better! Here's what's happening now, it starts up kinda shaky still but it a lot quicker. It starts out quick but then it starts to slow down.

As for the files I'm still not able to find the files and can't find the user library either. Maybe I or the previous owner deleted it by accident.

Here are the screen shots and the entrecheck.

"As for the battery, no one has ever open the mac before. I know it is not under warranty any more, it's been about 3 years since the buy date. Would it be worth a try to open the mac, clean the connecting point, and put back in?"

NO.

"It starts out quick but then it starts to slow down"

we are not ready yet.

"As for the files I'm still not able to find the files and can't find the user library either. Maybe I or the previous owner deleted it by accident."

It is still there, the mac wouldn't run without it at all, I think.

In Finder menupoint GO hold the Alt(option) key on your keyboard and then click "Library"...

----In that Library open LaunchAgents folder, and delete the three com.macpaw.... entries.

--Go to MacintoshHD /Library/Extensions/ folder and delete com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt

If it is not in there look MacintoshHD /System /Library / Extensions folder (be very careful there).

Now restart and empty the trash bin.

Give it a day or two days and restart once a day.

Think about the battery, eventually you will have to have a new battery installed.

When you insist doing it yourself there is a guide on how to do it here (this is one link):

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+Battery+Repla cement/5889

And they also sell the original battery.

But it is rather advanced.

Hey there! For some reason the battery started to work again and I didn't do anything yet. However, It's still running on battery and I've restarted it a couple times. I also took a screen shot of the "power". I think I was able to find all 4 files that you were needing me to get rid of too.

Good work: the only one that is still there and must go is

com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt

Find it and delete it in either the

MacintoshHD /Library /Extensions folder

or the

MacintoshHD /System /Library /Extensions folder.

Post your findings here.

Then the only thing we have to do is to look at your hosts file, it may be compromised.

Strange.

Download an app called FindAnyFile (free), from here (only):

http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Install it.

Open it, type "blackberry" as part of the filename that you want to find, in the search field (without the quotes);

In the window that opens, you will see the complete name and where it is (click the second icon in the menubar for the display method);

(for my curiosity, write down where it is).

CTL+click on that one and choose "move to trash".

That is all, quit the FindAnyFile. You can keep this tool for special circomstances.

Empty the trash bin.

Check to see whether it is gone with etrecheck.

Ok, I downloaded it and I looked for it in the file and it didn't have it. but it had a lot of others....should I delete everything that's blackberry?

I found these two that was similar but it's still showing on etrecheck.

  • com.rim.drivers.BlackBerryUSBDriver.pkg.plist
  • com.rim.drivers.BlackBerryUSBDriver.pkg.bom

Here are some pics to show you where I found these.

and this is what the app searched out when I looked for blackberry

In the receipts folder it is not relevant: that folder is a sort of super protected user data base that only lists what was installed once. You may leave it there.

You may do one more same search with FAF: but now hold the Alt(option) key when pressing the Find button, it will ask for your account password and will search also in the root.

Well if FindAnyFile does not find it let it be.

Ready then.
