Navionics boat hd app not working on my wi-fi ipad 2

I thought I would be able to use the Navionics iPad app on my wi-fi only iPad 2 when its tethered to my iPhone 5S. I think I thought wrong! When on my boat, fishing in cell range but no wi-fi, I can see my accurate position on the water using Apple Maps on the iPad.. When I view the Navionics app on my iPad at the same location, I see a red icon on shore (near where I'm at on the water) --possibly the nearrest cell tower?? Did I just waste $54.99?

iPad 2, iOS 7.1, tethers to iPhone 5S with iOS 7.1

The wifi only Ipads do not contain the GPS chip that the wifi-cellular models have and thus uses cell tower connections to determine your location.

Many thanks Pedro and Rob. I have posed the same question to Navionics, and will share their response here when received. To clarify, Apple maps showed my position accurately on my iPad when tethered to my iPhone using 3g (wi-fi was not available on the water!) Navionics did not.

For those looking:

Navionics uses a lot of memory. You may need to close several ipad pages stored in memory. From your home page Double click start button to view pages and swipe to delete. Shut down ipad completely and reboot to tell Navionics you have freed memory. This worked for me, hope it helps you before you hit the rocks!
