Question

Unknown name in Terminal as username

i bought a MacBook Pro with OSX version 10.9.2 (Mavericks) since this, (about 2 month) i did not any attention to what happens in my Terminal when i start typing some code in it (java codes for compile or something) but now i got that when i just start my terminal, this totally unknown line will appeared:

dukhat:~ MacBookpro$

necessary to say, my basic mac user was macbookpro when i bought this mac but what is this "dukhat"?!

i googled it but there is no related information about...

i totally found after many searches:

The VPN's DNS server probably assigns hostname together with the IP address and the computer uses it instead of what you've set during setup and what appears in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Computer name.

To set a permanent hostname do

sudo scutil --set HostName DesiredHostname

in Terminal.app!

What you see, that's the Hostname...

System Preferences > Sharing > Computer Name

Sometimes on public access networks, the DNS doesn't update frequently enough so you get assigned and IP/Hostname from the previous device connected.

Try a different network, Change to Google DNS (8.8.8.8) if allowed, and your hostname will return to normal.

i'm not in a public network & i never been yet.

i'm using my home personal dsl network.

but i changed my DNS taht was 192.168.1.1 to 8.8.8.8...

is this exactly what you say?

and the question is: what was that Dukhat?!... is this about hack or somthing?!

That is absolutely not necessary!

I see 2015developer has solved his problem, but just to reiterate... the hostname can be controlled by the network. Some honor the name chosen by the user, in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Computer Name. Some assign a different name. This is entirely normal, and not signs of a hack or an indication that the computer should be returned to Apple.
