Lightning cable shorted and caught fire.

Anybody have thier lightning cable shot out and catch fire? That was fun.

The lightning end of the cable had the rubber around the cable melt and spark and smoke and flame before me putting it out.

The same thing happened to me, I took a video of it but can't display it here somehow.

My iPad mini was at 5% and I was not none with it, so I connected it to charge and kept using it.

Shortly after my arm started getting a warm feeling, then I see some smoke. I looked around, the actual genuine Apple lightning connector is on fire. The whole cable is hot and even on the USB end the white plastic is melting.

Note that: Cable was in excellent shape, looking like new. Except for a minor dark discoloration on the center of the connector itself. It was the only cable able to charge my iPad. I bought certified cable on amazon "the iBlazon" and other genuine Apple white one none would work.

Granted its rare something like that can happen but the lighting connector, can potentially burn your house down if your not there. Maybe some house fire and death already have occurred because of unattended iPad getting Charged up. I will share my experience with my local Fire department, I feel obligated because live are at stake.

It wasn't as exciting as having it actually catch fire, but I didn't give it the chance. I plugged my iphone 5 in last night and didn't get the charging icon. I thought that was odd and went to unplug the phone and plug it back in. But when I went to do this, I found the cable was real hot. I'm glad I caught this before there was a fire.

Got in the car this morning, and plugged in my 6+ like I do every morning. After a few minutes I smell smoke...of course I'm thinking something's wrong with the car. I look down, and the smoke is coming from my apple OEM cable. Luckily I yanked it out before fire broke out, but the rubber is melted on the cable. Scary stuff...surprised there's never been a real fire caused by this. At least not one anybody is talking about.
