Saving a doc in Microsoft Office/excel on an ipad

Normally to save an attachment after opening you hold your finger on the attachment till the share icon(box with arrow) appears at the top of the page. Tap the share icon then a window should open with the places it can be saved.

Without an Office 365 subscription, it appears the only save or output option available is to send the file as an email attachment. It will not save files locally. You will need another file management/storage apps such as File Manager or DropBox and open the files to the app from their.

Basically the apps are close to useless without the subscription.

Someone on the previous page just asked a similar question and here is the answer I gave.

There's an app called Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) in the app store. It's the fourth highest 'paid' app and the third highest 'grossing' app in the business category. (Go to the app store, then click on categories, then business. Then over on the right under top grossing and top paid you can click on Jump and read the reviews.)

You'll be able do do more than read the documents if you want. You can work from your ipad with documents, spreadsheets, etc., make changes in them on your ipad and they will be reflected on your computer (mac or pc.) And you don't need a cellular ipad to make the connection. All you need to do is have your MBP on at home with a wireless network and be in an area where you have wireless access to connect your ipad (or iphone) with your MBP at home.

Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) RDP/VNC will let you access your mac and all of your mac programs like MS Word, Excel, etc., as they are on your ipad. There's a free trial at jumpdesktop.com. If you like it you can then come back to the App store and buy it. Please note that there are many free apps that will help but you might have to spend extra time adapting your work to an ios app as many (most?) do not translate from mac to ipad well.
