you can block all numbers not in your contact list by doing this:

  1. go to settings
  2. open "Do Not Disturb"
  3. slide on "Manual"
  4. tap on "Allow Calls From"
  5. Select "All Contacts"

All calls from numbers not on your contacts list will now be blocked. You can however still see all numbers that attempted to call you as missed calls. Verify the numbers and if legit, add them to your contacts list to receive any future calls from them.

Having an option to auto-reject any incoming calls without at least a phone number would be a nice option to add to iOS.

It's really a bad idea. Most calls made anonymously are legitimate. For example, your doctor returning your call from her mobile (that she doesn't want to give out). Most spam calls are not sent anonymously; they are sent with forged phone numbers. Now, if there was a way to reject forged caller ID I'd vote for that, but it's not technically feasible (thanks to the wisdom of our legislators, who made it legal to create your own caller ID for outgoing calls). In a way there is, at least for VoIP calls; visit nomorobo.com for information.

The problem with Do Not Disturb is it blocks message alerts too. Actually it blocks everything but alarms and calls you allow. So you have to check your phone regularly for blocked texts etc.

You can set individual contacts on Emergency Bypass so that you're notified of their texts even if DND is enabled. It's not perfect but it made DND useable for me.

Go to the contact you want to put on Emergency Bypass. Tap Edit in the upper right corner. Tap Text Tone. Swipe all the way to the top of the list and tap on Emergency Bypass.

@Farduus The real way to hide your caller id is

1.Press the Home button of your iphone

2.Go to settings

3.Go to Phone settings

4.Go to caller ID

5.Disable show my caller ID

After following these steps when you call anyone with your number, the receiver of call will receive your call as

"Private number calling" or "No caller ID".

But if you see on your phone that you are unable to swipe between show my caller id or it's greyed out in either way your mobile carrier i.e Zong or Waird or Telenor or Mobilink has restricted in your country to use this incredible feature from back end.

You can use third party apps like Ding Tone etc if you want to call a number as a private number

@Lawrence Finch has it to do with subject or not; you are none to ask for a justification; I wrote all that as a reminder because I suffered quite much in the search of this answer I wrote, as far as the question is confirmed @Lawrence Finch you are totally wrong when you say you can't block no caller ID; For this purpose you need to adjust your iPhone settings to first display a no caller Id number and than put that specific number in your block list.

Please tell me you're joking. If there is no caller id there is no number to first display. That's what no caller ID means. NO NUMBER was sent by the network to your phone to first display.

Blocking outgoing caller ID (preventing other people from seeing your number when you call them), which is what you described, has absolutely nothing to do with blocking calls from that have no number associated with them. You're adding two and two and getting bananas.

You're right, and this is incredibly frustrating. I have AT&T service on my iPhone 6, and have called 611 multiple times to ask for their help in preventing "No Caller ID" calls from going through. Each AT&T support rep has indicated that they cannot block these calls from coming through. Astounding. They indicate that they can only block specific numbers, but cannot block a call with no specific number.

I receive such No Caller ID calls at least once per day, sometimes 2 or 3, for weeks now. It's really frustrating, and I've not answered any of the calls, but am reaching the limit of my patience. It is now clearly harassment.

One rep recommended that I try TrapCall as an option, for revealing the true numbers for these No Caller ID calls. Its reviews are definitely mixed, and it's difficult to determine how their service and app affect the phone (e.g. privacy), and what kind of success the service, or its competitors, have. Does anyone have any feedback on these?

Most calls with blocked caller ID are legitimate and should not be blocked or ignored. They are frequently from people you should talk to, like doctors calling from their private numbers returning your call, or employers, likewise. I get calls from spammers and other lowlifes almost daily, but none of them have blocked caller id. Instead they display real, but forged, caller ids. every call that I have received over the past several years with a blocked caller id has been legitimate.

What didn't work for you? You replied to the original post. There are 6 pages of responses. Presumably you are referring to one of the 80 messages in this thread, but we have no way of knowing which one.

Note that it is not possible to block "no caller ID" calls. And you probably shouldn't. See my post, directly above yours.

Lawrence, I appreciate your other advice, but I have to disagree with your statement that "most calls with blocked caller ID are legitimate and should not be blocked or ignored." Since my post two weeks ago, I continued to receive "No Caller ID" calls, and I ultimately caved and answered the phone – it was a spammer, and I then started to receive a ton of further calls from a variety of numbers.

Some hospitals may have a "No Caller ID" message, but those offices will at least leave a message to request your call back. Anyone with a legitimate reason, including employers, will likely leave a message, unlike most spam artists.

It is a real frustration to have your phone ringing multiple times throughout the day from unknown numbers, and equally annoying that AT&T is unwilling to allow us to add these callers to the blocked list.
