Can't exit full screen. Top menu can't be seen. Using mountain lion 10.8. Esc and command DO NOT work

Mac mini-mountain lion 10.8. Can't exit full screen-Can't see top menu. Tried esc and command. Did NOT work. Other suggestions

Try pushing the cursor all the way to the top of the screen. This should produce the menubar and access to the full screen gadget on the far right. Click to return to normal view.

Yep. Here's something you can do. Quit the program you have running in full screen mode. Use COMMAND-Q. If you cannot do that then hold down the Power button until the computer shuts down. Then restart. After the chime press and hold down COMMAND and R keys until the Apple logo appears with the spinning gear. When the Utility menu appears click on the Disk Utility option and click on the Continue button. Select your Macintosh HD volume (or whatever is the name of your startup volume) from the Disk Utility sidebar. Click on the Repair Disk button. When that is completed select Restart from the Apple menu in the menubar.
