Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I use Safari and often have to double click on the address bar to get the desired webpage to open or finish loading. Such as this one. Any ideas why this is and can anything be done with to make loading go smoother?

Often when I want to open a webpage the operation is slowed or stops in the address bar so I have to double click on the address bar and so does anyone know why this is and what can be done to make the operation smoother? I use OS 10.9.2 and Safari. Also I use Chrome and do not have this problem with it so why?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I have been having similar problems as well. I hope Apple gets this sorted out soon.

Sometimes, resetting my SMC solves it temporarily for whatever reason...

Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own

Note: This will not delete any data.

The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.

Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…

Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.

Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.

On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (), Control (), and Option () keys and the Power Button at the same time.

Release the (left side) Shift (), Control (), and Option () keys and the Power Button at the same time.

I hope I helped.

Just Safari ...

Disable anti virus software if installed to test.

And try troubleshooting extensions and third party plug-ins.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

This is probably being caused by something that is modifying Safari's behavior. As Carolyn points out, you should first examine the Safari extensions that you have installed. Those are a prime candidate.

You should also search for any known adware that you might have installed, as there are a number of adware programs that modify Safari's behavior through methods other than (or in addition to) using an extension. Follow the instructions in the Identification section of my Adware Removal Guide. (You can skip the "Is it adware?" section, because your problem in this case does not sound like something that would be caused by a network issue.)

If you don't find any adware installed, check for and remove SIMBL. SIMBL is software that can modify the behavior of apps, and it's rather outdated at this point, so it should not be used on a modern system. Some software still installs it, though. You will find some removal instructions for SIMBL at the end of the removal instructions for ChatZum.

i am constantly copyting urls in the address bar, and have to click three times because it offers me to 'cusomize' the address bar, and also justr deselects the url again at least once.

I dont use share buttons which have trackers in them rather use direct url typing

As to the loading problem, where Safari wont load a page and hangs, but then suddenly loads when you click on the address bar, is to do with i believe AJAX scripts and Java script timeouts, which a lot of new websites use and which safari is really not able to deal with it seems

My online store ecommerce solution (ecwid) is a big problem to load in Safari, and many similar sites are also difficult to load and only load if i click on the address bar

As to the comments her from people about it being to do with plugins and addns, it isnt because im a bare bones person who uses apple built in apps but no third party plugins. I dont even use photoshop to edit images much as the preview app does it,

most apple apps have many more tools and more power than people know, and so i dont clog my machine up with plugins. Safari on my Mac has no plugins, nor do i have adobe flash, or pepper flash installed.

The problem is Safari power saving setting which are not accessible t0 users, and which are a large part of the safari style of approach (deactivate plugins etc to make page load faster.. like 'kill all the media make it a boring page.., so safari looks fast'

In truth, Safari is not faster, it is just switching off functionality, to appear faster, and deprecates itself with many websites in the process. I arrive at many newly updated sites (such as youtube and facebook) and cannot get many things to fucntion, because Safari isnt equipped to handle it

Many signup forms using java and AJAX wont work using Safari (the buttons wont press and upload dialogues wont work)

Many interface buttons will be invisible in safari, but not in other browsers. Many sites i arrive at say 'this browser is not supported please get an up to date browser.

Its a shame because i like to use Safari due to it working with text replacement shortcuts, and also with Siri to speak and let it type for me (firefox doesnt work with Siri or text replacement)

But Safari is becoming ever more deprecated

The thing i hate though which is nothing to do with deprecation, is the topic of this post, namely why on earth do i have to click 3 times on the url bar just to select the url and copy it to go paste into Facebook or wherever

As i said, i dont support certain trends such as link tracking in social sharing plugins, because i dont believe stat gathering reflects reality, and i believe stats are what make new trending in internet marketing techniques, and that all the millions of people and companies following those marketiing trends, thibnk they are getting results, when in truth, its just stats that paint a picture through a certain lens.. My stats say Facebook brings 1600 people this month to my checkout basket in my store.. but i still sold the same as i sell in any month, despite 1600 people from facebook in my checkout.. which shows that the stats are not accurate.. and so, i cant select a url because safari thinks i want to customise the url bar, and doesnt know i want to select copy and paste the url

Also they dont encourage this and thats why too!

Because they want us to use the share dialogue, to track social sharing

But as i said i dont do that,

If anyone wants my user habits, then pay for it.

The modern web is basically one big data miner

Jan 31, 2016 2:07 PM in response to Thailand Amulets

The only extension I use is Ghostery for tracker blocking. My machine is virtually factory fresh other than the addition of Ghostery, Chrome and Open Office having gotten so flustered with Numbers that I refuse to use it. I agree with you that the internet is being mined for data related to marketing so I do my part to block or skew the data. If all these companies wanted to pay me for my information I'm open to the highest bidder.

I use Safari and often have to double click on the address bar to get the desired webpage to open or finish loading. Such as this one. Any ideas why this is and can anything be done with to make loading go smoother?
