unexpected error with new AX

my old AX used to stream music died. it was old. so i got a new one. thought set up would be a snap.

get flashing amber. set my mac pro to be wireless and start up AirPort Utility on my Mavericks machine.

the AX shows up in the Other Wi-Fi Devices menu as AirPort Express dfd516.

i quickly goes through a number of steps including joining the AX network and then i get An unexpected error occurred. Try again.

trying again gets the same results. have reset to factory settings. same result.

interestingly, it does not show up on my iPad AirPort Utility. also interesting, after the error, AirPort Utility shows i am disconnected from the internet for about 5 seconds.

what is going on?

Please try the following:

Power off the Express for a few minutes

Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds or so while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Express. (You almost need 3 hands for this)

Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart

Try the setup on the iPad again as follows:

On the iPad home screen......Tap Settings

Tap WiFi

Under the topic of Setup a New AirPort Base Station....

Tap AirPort Express

Follow the prompts

If this works, we'll next try to fix the bug in Mavericks that is not helping, so it may work next time you try.

Please post back on your progress.

wow, i get past the unexpected error step, but i cannot find an option to join the existing network for music. it seems to just want to extend the current network.

my choices are creat a new network, add to an existing network or replace and existing device. if i choose add to an existing network, the next step says it is extending the network and i am reluctant to go past that until i understand what the options are.

One of many. This may or may not help.

On your Mac, click System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)

Open Network

Click on WiFi on the left, then click Advanced at the lower right

Click the TCP/IP tab

Make sure that the setting for Configure iPv6 is set to Link Local

Click OK

Click Apply

Then do the same thing as above, only this time choose Ethernet on the left

Click Advanced

Click the TCP/IP tab

Make sure that the setting for Configure iPv6 is set to Link Local

Click OK

Click Apply

Restart the Mac
