What if we cannot see the passcode field or keyboard because the display is off? Unfortunately a dependent sightee.

You can also use Siri to turn Voiceover off.

Very helpful. My old locked iPhone was not connected to network or wifi. So I could not activate the Siri. But double tapping saved me from a lot of anxiety going on for the last so many days.

How do I ask Siri to turn off voice over if I can unlock the screen? I place the pasword (4 numbers ), but does respond and keep repeating numbers instead of unlocking?

Triple-click the home button, rather quickly, to turn it off. Voice over must have been enabled by a few bumps to your phone. It can be activated and deactivated when the phone is locked.
