Why does iphone 5 still show deleted music regardless of settings?

Here is a breakdown of the issue(s):

1. When I connect my iphone 5 to my PC and delete songs off the phone it still keeps them available to see and play. I want to completley eliminate these songs from the phone as I use the shuffle feature and don't want them to be used in the mix regardless of where they are stored.
2. I cannot delete these songs with the regular "swipe" method on the device. However, my wife has the same music on her phone and we can swipe and delete them successfully on her iphone 5.Most of my songs can be deleted by swiping except a select few albums.
3. I do not use iTunes Match and I have "Show all music" turned off so none of this music stored in the cloud should be visible. I am on the latest version of IOS.
