How are you seeing this 'virus'?
Pete
When I am in Firefox and I click the page at random new pages adds/games just open up. Just started today.

This Adware has been around for ages. Thre are tips for removing it here
http://malwaretips.com/blogs/rvzr-a-akamaihd-net-virus/
I would just be clearing the caches in Safari, maybe even reset Safari and delete any Sercg Engines I do not use.
Pete
This is not a virus, it's just some kind of advertising scam. Take a look at my Adware Removal Guide and see if any of the suggestions there help.
It only started today but thanks for your time guys and I will check out your links above. Take me a bit of time as I'm a BOF but I will let you know how things go.
Mike
Yep, curses on these unscrupulous vendors who spam our internet trying to sell their crapware.
Pete
Hey, I've tried doing what you suggest, but when I'm in the extensions menu, I'm only given the option to disable GoPhoto.it. I can't remove it the way I can with my other extensions. Suggestions?
There seems to be a new GoPhoto.it outbreak going on right now, and I haven't seen a sample of this new variant yet. There are a number of other reports of being unable to remove the extension, specifically involving Firefox. If that's the browser you're having the problem with, see:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/974356?esab=a&s=gophoto.it&r=0&as=s
I have yet to see a report of this problem from anyone other than a Firefox user.
Good to know I'm on the cutting edge of being annoyed. 😉
Thanks for the link, thomas. It fixed it immediately. For those wanting to know what to do, Junkshow writes:
This has been bugging me for a while as well, and I finally cracked it! The GoPhoto.it extension is in your home directory, under Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions. The folder called "{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}" is the one you need to delete.
Your Library folder is hidden by default on newer versions of Mac OS, the easiest way to get there is to open the terminal and type "open ~/Library"
Erm don't know why my reply to you all went so far up the page, it should be here as you all helped. So thanks again to all of you.
Mike
Well guys told you I was a BOF thus my post above - my original post was thanking you ALL as my prob has now been fixed. Can't thank you guys enough for you time and help so next time you are in Markham Canada lets go for a pint.
Thanks again guys
Mike
I've had this malware infect Safari on my Mac, iPhone and iPad. Am still trying to troubleshoot...
Hi Alan, My ‘bug’ was in Firefox and the route SanChristo led me to the ‘ec8030f7…..’ folder solved it for me, So I guess you will have to hang on and hope he comes back with the route to the Safari bug.
Mike
Keep in mind, it wasn't me. It was the guys at Mozilla. And thomas_r deserves the credit for sending us in their direction.
Additionally, you may want to check your extensions within the browser to assure GoPhoto isn't present.
For those of you using Google Chrome: Open Chrome > Preferences > Extensions > Delete GoPhoto. It extension.
For those using Safari: Open Safari > Preferences > Extensions > Uninstall GoPhoto. It
Worked for me. All browsers: Safari, Chrome and Firefox were infected.
