How to connect new 15" MacBook Pro to 23" Apple CIN HD Display

I'm heading out tomorrow to buy a new 15" Retina Display MacBook Pro.

I currently have a 10 year old PowerMac G5 (loaded, works well, but outdated, especially the OS) and an Apple Cinema HD Display, 23" Flat Panel, Part M9178LL/A.

I'd like to connect the laptop to the Cinema Display:

1) Is this possible

2) What adapter(s) do I need.

The cable running from the Display has 4 leads: DVI (Digital Visual Interface), FireWire 400, USB 2.0 and DC power (24.5 V)

Thanks.

Hey!
That is no problem at all:
You need a Thunderbolt to DVI adapter! Ones by Apple will coast about 30-40$ i think. You can purchase them online by other manufacters as well! The MacBook pro 15'' Retina (i am sitting in front of it right now), has 2 thunderbolt slots. so you can use 1 monitor on that, and some other devices. furthermore one HDMI, so could install a bunch of monitors!

Greets!

Thats one for VGA! It looks quite simmilar to the one for DVI!:

If you have an Ethernet printer where it can be connected to your Router, you can just use an Ethernet cable to the Router to make that connection. The Printer will need an Ethernet address that is similar to the IP Addresses of the computers on your network, and then it will be available to print from every computer.

Connecting an Ethernet printer to a single computer with a separate Ethernet cable is Simple cabling, but really complicated Networking. Not recommended.

I will give OWC a call. I've ordered from them before and have found them helpful and professional...Just like YOU!

I'll be back in touch with you once I get an adapter and see if it'll work. Though it is one additional cable, the set up parallels the set up of the Xerox printer, which was very successful.

Have a great day and thanks so much.

BobRz: I posted an inquiry on Amazon regarding the adapter and Mavericks. Here is the reply:

A fellow customer answered your question, "I need to connect an older Apple Laser Printer to an Apple Time Capsule via USB. The networked Computers run OS 10.9.2 (Mavericks). Will this work?" about Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN....

J. Everett answered:

"MANUFACTURER REPLY: Thanks for asking, but unfortunately, no. We do not sell any adapters designed to work with printers- sorry about that.

Best wishes-

Hmm. Not sure how to find the IP Address or what to do after that! I'm not all that proficient with this stuff. In any event, there is a printer start-up page and it says the following:

Ethernet ( (Address: 08:00:07:24:f6:96)

NetWare Frame Type: Autodetect

EtherTalk: PostScript

NetWare: AutoSelect

PServer name: APPLE_LW24f696

TCP/IP: PostScript

IP address: 0.0.0.0

This is the manual:

The process of assigning an IP Address is a bit convoluted, unless you can run Classic or have Apple Printer Utility for Windows available.

Starts on page 78.

Yes, you should start a new discussion, but I am probably the "expert" on this subject.

John Galt may be able to help as well, and there may be others.
