Question

Is there a way to block these pop-up windows pushing that I update the computer's MacOSX to Mavericks?

The subject says it all.

I do not like Mavericks.

I do not want Mavericks.

I am tired of working and having this pop-up suddenly appear.

My computers my rules.

If i want to run Snow leopard till the day I die that is my choice.

These pop-up windows are getting really annoying.

I the middle of writing a Perl script or working on a design

these pop-up suddenly appear out of nowhere about upgrading

to a version of Mac OSX

I do not like.

I do not want.

I do not need.

I have two iMacs that I have to downgrade.

one back to Snow Leopard

and one back to Mountain Lion.

I do not need someone upgrading either of the two Mac-Mini nor either

of the two MacBook Pro laptops by mistake.

I have to downgrade my one child's MacBook Pro this coming weekend

because they mistakenly upgraded to Mavericks and discovered that

they do not like it.

I have never seen a 'Pop Up' telling me to install a new OSX.

System Preferences, App Store, disable "Automatically check for updates".

Hang on, are you running Mavericks at the moment? Or Snow Leopard? It was not clear from your rant. If you are on Mavericks then take the simple step that CT gave you.

Snow Leopard uses the old Software Update. There is no

"App Store".

Software Updates under Snow Leopard are set for

Check weekly

Inform Me.

I do not see how the Older Software Update under Snow Leopard

would be the source of the pop-up windows.

Again. What OSX are you running? You rant but don't give the required information. Post the screen shot next time it comes up. I have never seen a Pop Up telling me to install another OSX, only to install updates.

Then you either have hardware issues or a lot of crapware and incompatable software. Many many millions of users are using Mavericks with no issue. The problem rests on your side.

hello

I am sorry you fell that way.

The disabled people I loan Mac-Mini and iMacs to

that have Front Row on it and may be operated with

a single simple remote would beg to differ.

Those with auto-neuron disease such as ALS just want

to have some Enterainment with FrontRow. Otherwise,

they would have to have the Care GIver changing the

Media on the computer.

I am trying to allow people who are dying have some

degree of choice and freedom.

I cannot do that with Mountain Lion nor Mavericks.

FrontRow was removed starting with Mountain Lion.

I am not "ranting".

Then don't use Mavericks. Restore all the Macs from the backups you made to what you were happy with.

Concerning not using Mavericks that is exactly what I have been

attempting to do. Apple, on the other hand appears to feel that

everyone should upgrade to Mavericks given the annoying pop-up

windows.

I cannot prevent mistakes from happening. I am trying to prevent

the apparent cause for those mistakes from popping up.

I am just asking to be left in peace so that I may do my job.

I do feel that I should not have to defend my computers from

Apple's actions.

You are not the only one to complain about this. Therre was a lively discussion four or five days ago. No one in that discussion had a solution, but as has happened here, some folks responded with snarky critcism.

One of my computers is a Mini running 10.6.8. The offensive pop up arrived a few times, but I forget what I did to stop it coming back. It has not come back during the last 3 - 4 days.

Uncheck the the box marked 'Weekly'

You'll need to check manually.

And in case Csound1 was not clear, It is System Preferences -> Software Update he has provided a screen shot for.

Newer systems may have this under System Preferences -> App Store
