Is there a way to block these pop-up windows pushing that I update the computer's MacOSX to Mavericks?

The subject says it all.

I do not like Mavericks.

I do not want Mavericks.

I am tired of working and having this pop-up suddenly appear.

My computers my rules.

If i want to run Snow leopard till the day I die that is my choice.

These pop-up windows are getting really annoying.

I the middle of writing a Perl script or working on a design

these pop-up suddenly appear out of nowhere about upgrading

to a version of Mac OSX

I do not like.

I do not want.

I do not need.

I have two iMacs that I have to downgrade.

one back to Snow Leopard

and one back to Mountain Lion.

I do not need someone upgrading either of the two Mac-Mini nor either

of the two MacBook Pro laptops by mistake.

I have to downgrade my one child's MacBook Pro this coming weekend

because they mistakenly upgraded to Mavericks and discovered that

they do not like it.

hello

the pop-up window is not from software update.

it is from the app store.application which was added later to

snow leopard. it would appear that a small background daemon

is running and allowing apple to trigger these pop-up windows.

i have sent the screenshot to a senior supervisor at

applecare and so far all i have heard from him is silence.

i am leaning toward the simplest solution is to trash the app store

application.

if the pop-up window would reappear i would at least know

then that it was not the app store application causing the issue.

would have to look else where.

the other solution is the block all of apple's ip address space

in my routers. that way no more of my computers would be

updated by mistake.

anyway, i am still waiting to hear from applecare.

Hello;

I have moved the App Store application installed under Snow Leopard to a 1GB USB drive.

I have downgraded one of the 2 iMacs mistakenly upgraded to Mavericks back to Snow Leopard.

Thankfully I keep complete backups made the 1st of every month. Time Machine incremental after

that. It was still several hours of work.

I will do the 2nd iMac next week.

Still waiting to hear from the Senior Supervisor in Applecare.

The silence is deafening.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) has the "App Store" application, but it is not used for system updates. Anyway, we have never seen any message to update to a newer system - the system update (manually or automatically) only informs about updates for the installed system. Your update message is very strange.

The disabled people I loan Mac-Mini and iMacs to

that have Front Row on it and may be operated with

a single simple remote would beg to differ.

Those with auto-neuron disease such as ALS just want

to have some Enterainment with FrontRow.

You might take a look at nessMediaCenter (http://www.nessmediacenter.com) - it could be a perfect solutions for your people: a very good contrast, easy to use, and a large collection of entertainment and music videos at "Internet".

I suspect that you would find the writings of one Theodor Seuss Geisel, a/k/a Dr. Seuss, to also be rude and arrogant! I personally find her writing style charming 😎 especially given the fact that she is continuously frustrated at having this pop-up appear on many Macs used by her cohorts!

... and the piling on! Read between the lines and just accept it as her "style" and then either offer to help her or move on to the next thread!

She posted the screenshot on the morning of April 4th, as originally the last post on page 1. It shows much too much personal information and I have asked the moderators to delete it.

Here is a screenshot of just the dialog box:

Now I understand why there is a recent burst of PowerPC users who inadvertently upgraded to Mavericks and lost access to their PowerPC apps! Apple should modify this dialog box to warn these Snow Leopard users of the dangers of the omission of Rosetta from Mavericks.

And, YES, Rosetta was originally removed in the release of Lion as well as Mountain Lion, a fact that is mostly unknown to the current universe of Mac users who exclusively use Snow Leopard!

Where is the install, do you have to press 'Details' and then,..... what?

You'll have to install Snow Leopard and the App Store to find out; I do not have the App Store installed in any of my uses of Snow Leopard...

I suspect that there is none; just the instructions in DETAILS on how to install Mavericks; which is destructive enough to the common user of Snow Leopard who has no idea they are continuing to use PowerPC apps!

"The greatest trick that Apple ever pulled was convincing the world that Rosetta didn't exist." [with apologies to Bryan Singer and the French poet, Baudelaire]!

"And like that, I'm gone!" 👿
