Turn off mavericks upgrade notification in Snow Leopard

I'm happily running Snow Leopard with no plans to upgrade, but lately I've been getting uninvited update to mavericks notifications front and center on my screen in the middle of whatever I happen to be doing and Apple doesn't appear to offer any way to turn them off. The only options provided are "yes" or "later." I can't see any way in app store or system preferences to turn them off. The notices are invasive and show a surprising lack of respect for the professionals who choose to work on Apple workstations, with the OS of their choice.

Can anyone tell me how to turn them off?

Thanks,

Dave

Worrying that someone may have access to the computer during the five minutes that sudo is active, and start deleting or modifying system files is on my list of likely catastrophes somewhere between my concern that I'll be eaten by polar bears in Senegal next week and my fear that I'll wake up tomorrow morning turned into a Fig Newton. 😁

I think your tip will be much clearer if you drop the part where you say delete /System/Library/LaunchAgents and just indicate that that's where the Noticeboard.plist is located. Then you won't need to say only remove the stuff in bold.

Btw, simply unloading that .plist is a far less aggressive move than deleting it completely, and it should accomplish what's needed just as well.

I have this problem too -- the window will not go away without clicking on Details and is on top of all other windows. These files that andyBall_uk said to delete do not exist on my computer, so something else is the problem.

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CommerceKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Not iceboard.app

/System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.noticeboard.plist

I am not signed into the App Store. I also turned off the automated weekly Software Update check the first time it happened.

Any other ideas?

When this popped-up out of the blue, I went looking at Console logs and discovered why blocking with LS wasn't sufficient to stop these nag notices anymore.

Feels almost like getting "hacked" - this uninvited message hijacks whatever you're doing and leaves no option to be rid of it other than to click "details" and go for an inconvenient, unwanted, unpleasant, and downright RUDE ride thru some sales pitch. Right up there with telemarketing calls and junk mail.

Thanks to you guys who have identified Noticeboard.app as the culprit and revealed its location, I guess the thing to do is extract it from the System and see what happens.

Unfortunately, I'm hearing from many people who have innocently gone the upgrade route only to find it breaks older apps, printer, etcetera and leaves them unhappy (if not angry) and wondering how to fix things. Really sorry to see Apple doing this to their customers.....
