Email Bounce

When I respond to an email it is bounced back with error messgages. (554 5.7.9, 550 5.7.0, 520 DMARC) I send less than 10 emails a day and 5 or less recipients on each. I recieve about the same number. My friends are expecting my emails or responses. (No spam or bulk emails) This problem started today. Some of the emails have been recieved even though the error messages said they were rejected. Others are not recieved. I have a gmail account and a yahoo account. The problem exists with both. Help.

Be sure you have selected the correct SMTP account for sending. If you send from Yahoo SMTP when you are trying to send a Gmail account, this could cause the message to bounce. You are "relaying" via a different server and most ISPs will bounce if the sending and received are not the same.

If you have other SMTP Settings you should delete the ones that are no longer used. Select Edit SMTP to delete.

I am having the same problem. It started happening after Yahoo tightened their anti-phising efforts using DMARC. The recipient email server thinks that the Yahoo mail is coming from a non-Yahoo server.

The problem only occurs when I send email from my iPad. I can send it fine using Outlook on my PC. And I can send it fine using Yahoo's webmail.

Right now it is only happening with a particular email address - one that is an alias or deflector pointing to the real email address.

I don't know if the problem is with Yahoo, the email alias or the iPad. It's definitely the combination of those three things.

Verify the setting on your iPad for your Yahoo account. It could be defaulting to iCloud or another email account to send.

SMPT should have your Yahoo info.

YahooIMAP server settings

Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 993

Requires SSL: Yes

Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 465 or 587

Requires SSL: Yes

Requires authentication: Yes

Login info - Requires authentication

I'm not sure how to send with iCloud account. I do know that if I send it from my Comcast account it works fine. It's only Yahoo that's a problem.

I should explain that this all came to my attention when someone was sending email to me from her Yahoo account on her iPad. In order to try to resolve it, I tried sending with my Yahoo account on my iPad and had the same problem. So I have other work-arounds (use my Comcast account), but I am concerned about not getting emails that other people may try to send me.

I don't know how many people use a Yahoo account on an iPad. Is it worth pursuing this?

The other thing to note about the problem is that it only occurs when the email is sent to an email alias that redirects the email to a comcast address. So the problem may lie in the redirection (although it is not a problem if sent from Yahoo on a PC).

And yes, I have the latest updates on my iPad.

Thank you for your help, Diane, and especially your quick responses. I'm open to any other ideas you have.

PS - I'm originally from Oregon as well. Great state.

I see a lot of issues reported for Yahoo. Like many free services you get what you pay for.

If you have a Yahoo alias, it's often tricky to setup an account using the alias email. Try setting to your main Yahoo email. You should still get the alias email to the same account.

I would also look at the redirect, but that shouldn't affect sending but could result in receiving errors.

Apple makes setup for iCloud account easy. Just enter your email and password into your iPad email and it should auto setup.

If you don't have a long history with Yahoo, I would move to iCloud for better experience.
