Airport Utility/Airport 6th Generation + Xbox One LIVE

Here I am going to show how to configure your Airport device in order to use you Xbox One and have the NAT open, so you can have the best connection to your peers and have the advantage over your opponents.

1. Open the Airport Utility app, choose your airport device to be configured. Click on "edit".

2. Now, on your Xbox One console, find out what is its IP address and MAC address (there are two MAC address listed in the configurations Wired and Wireless, make sure to use the one that describes the way you are connected to the router). To do so, on your Xbox One console go to settings, network, and advanced settings.

3. Now back to your Computer. On the Airport Utility app, go to the Network tab. Here you are going to create a DHCP reservation for your Xbox One. Click on the + sign under DHCP reservations, and add the information you acquired from your Xbox One console earlier and save.

Example: (picture A).

4. Now you are going to configure the port settings, which allow a much better connection to Xbox LIVE servers. Click on the + sign under Port settings and type as the picture below (picture B) will show and save. NOTE: Remember that the Private IP Address should be your Xbox One's IP address. NOTE: Xbox One requires UDP 500 and 4500 which you will need to input if and only if you have iCloud turned off, otherwise it will not allow you to input them.

5. Click on "Network Options" and follow the picture (picture C) below and save.

6. Click update, and restart you Xbox One console

You are all done.

Hi Primopratsy,

Sorry to bring this up for you again, but I hope you can help. I have tried configuring my Time Capsule as you suggest, but I still have a moderate NAT setting on my Xbox One.

I am trying to set up a wired connection through a power line adapter from my TC to Xbox One. There is an internet connection with a good connection speed but Xbox Live does not work.

If I set it up with a wireless connection, Xbox Live works fine.... Just a bit slower than I want, which is why I'm trying to have it wired.

As I said, I followed your TC setup but it still gave me a moderate NAT.

If you need any more info, or screen shots etc let me know.

I was having this issue and your awesome tutorial really helped. That is, until I hooked up a second XboxOne Console. The first one worked fine with Open NAT, but the second would not. I kept getting that lovely teredo IP error.

So, here is my solution for two XBoxOne consoles, which has worked fine so far;

1. Follow steps A & B perfectly for Console #1, giving it a unique name like XBoxOneA in step A.

2. Then repeat step A for Console #2, again giving it a unique name like XBoxOneB

2. Then jump down and complete step C for Console #2, with it's unique IP.

This effectively maps the ports for Console #1 and gives DMZ to Console #2. Open NAT on both and no issues in multiplayer. Now it's entirely possible I have screwed something up and someone smarter than I may have a better solution, but for now, this is the only way I see to make it work.

How to put your Xbox One in the DMZ w/ an Apple router in Mac OS X:

-On your One:

Settings/Network/Advanced Settings: write down the wired or wireless MAC address on the right(depending on what type of connection you have). It must be EXACT and is case sensitive

Turn off your One

-On your Mac: Go to Finder/Applications/Utilities/Airport utility

Click on the the Airport Extreme or Airport Time capsule icon

Click on edit

Click on Network tab

Make sure router mode is set to "DHCP and NAT"

At the bottom of the empty box that sez "DHCP reservations" click the + sign

A drop down menu will open. Type in Xbox One or whatever(doesn't matter what you use, it's just a title)

Below that it sez "Reserve address by-should be on "MAC address"

Below that where it sez "MAC Address, type the MAC address you wrote down from the Xbox One(remember, it's gotta be EXACT)

Below that where it sez IPv4: type in 10.0.1.253(it might have part of it already there, like 10.0.1.2. Just add the 53)

Click Save

It'll bring you back to the previous menu. Click "Network Options" towards the bottom

Put a check in the little box next to "Enable default host at:" The ip address 10.0.1.253 should appear. If not, type it in.

Click Save

It'll bring you back to the previous screen. Click Update.

It'll take 2-3 minutes for your router to update. if you have older Apple routers, they'll flash amber til it's done, then solid green.

When your router's done updating, make sure your computer(or smartphone) can connect to the internet on your network like usual

-On your One: Turn it back on

Go to Settings/Network/Advanced Settings

Towards the top right it SHOULD say: IP address:10.0.1.253

If it does, your good to go

If it doesn't, you either had a type-o or it's gonna take some time for the One to update on screen

Thanks for this walkthrough, helped me immensely. After a few months of use though, I do have one question; Is there a way to get the Open NAT on the Xbox One through a wirelessly bridged Airport? My issue now is the Xbox is running off the router on the other side of the house, rather than the bridged router that's much closer. My internet speeds are already fluctuating like crazy and so getting the stronger signal would be great. Thanks for any help you have to offer
