error message for yahoo messenger

I have an imac with osx snow leopard and i can't sign into yahoo messenger it says wrong credentials but it is the correct password because i can sign into yahoo mail. I have gone to applications, keychain, and there is nothing in there to do with yahoo. I have changed the password and still nothing. It used to work wonderfully for years now it won't. Any suggestions?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Rosetta is a faceless application which allows Intel OSX machines up to Snow Leopard to open PPC programs such as AppleWorks: it is not included with 10.7 and above so PPC programs canot be run.

However even my elderly copy of Yahoo Messenger (2006 and I haven't used it for years) is Universal so doesn't need Rosetta. I tried running my copy - I haven't used it for years - and it won't sign in either way.

I don't know what the situation is these days with it: looking at the website they offer downloads for Windows, Android and iOS but not Macs. There is apparently a web version within Yahoo Mail.

Roger, Thanks for the guidance. I know there's a chat feature in the web mail version of Yahoo but I don't want to always be sitting in front of email (or having to toggle back) nor sitting on my phone either. Would rather get the YIM application to work but it jsut doesn't for me on this MacBook. I posted a thread earlier this morning, which will give you better details of my issue

Thanks again !

I get exactly the same results you do - it used to work, and I have used it, but it was quite a number of year back and I haven't tried it since until now. It seems thoroughly broken - I'm puzzled by the comment above about Rosetta because as I say it's a Universal application so that shouldn't have anything to do with it.

I can only suggest trying Yahoo Support, if any, but it rather looks as if they've lost interest in Macs.

The most random fix just happened for me, something I didn't think of trying. At the LogIn Screen go to your Preferences and select the Connection option and I changed the toggle to 'Behind Firewall' .. Although, I'm not behind a fire wall or anything but just played around with the settings and it worked and now I'm able to log in . strange.. very strange.. - Cheers !
