Question on Date formatting

Hello,

I am trying to format a column with dates.

Currently it is in DD/MM/YYYY format but i need it in YYYY-MM-DD format.

I have tried to format using the inspector, but it keeps showing up as "multiple" format and even when I choose the proper format, it still appears as "multiple".

I have tried removing the formatting, but keep receiving that it is in "multiple" data format.

For some reason, the last row pictured does convert {unclear why it is changing to a whole number vs. a date}, but the others don't. Any thoughts on what I'm doing incorrectly and how i can fix it?

Thanks in advance! User uploaded file

Hello

The simplest makeshift remedy would be to a) copy the column in question in Numbers, b) paste it into new document of a text editor, clean it and copy it, c) paste it back in the column in Numbers. You need to use decent text editor which lets you find and replace invisible characters.

I'm not convinced that the cause is orphaned CR, though. It is only one possibility which might explain why only the last row is (correctly) interpreted as a date serial number, whilst it would not explain why the last row is interpreted as date serial number (and yet the serial number seems to be 2-days off when interpreted in 1900 epoch system: 1900-01-01 + 35988 days = 1998-07-14, not 1998-07-12). Most probably it all depends upon the origin of the data and how you have imported them.
