My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

User uploaded file

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Yes I do. However, that is not the common denominator. It is also not where my issues originated , they have begun at the bezel. The skin on the keys did not cause my bevel to start to delaminate. This is too wide spread. Also, I would need to sit down on the mac in order to cause that to happen. And I have not.

It is a production issue, more likely I would hazard to guess a trial of a cheaper material since this has only been showing up in the last few years of the models and skewed at that. It coinsides with the price drop a few years back for the entry level mac's. I also noticed a good chunk of them are complaints from people who live in the more hot and humid climates. Suggesting it is flawed during use within enviornment as well.

I fully expect GB to show me the door, however I will be requesting a written quote and a written statement on what they think I did wrong as to tamper their product..

I will request they refund me the balance due for the remaining Applecare I have purchased, as I have just rolled over 1 year a few days ago, and I will get the names of the individuals I speak with so I can contribute that to the issue at hand.

Thats all I can do.

Going forward we will not be buying any more apple products. Not right now at least, even if they fix the screen issue(highly doubtful). I priced a nice new Dell Preloaded with Linux Last night that has 4K resolution , a workstation, and we will just go back to Linux. System 76 is out of stock on their best models so I cant do a buy there.

In the past two years we have spent :

iPad Air -1289.00$ Nov 2012 (+ applecare 99$ + Case 129$)

iPhone 5s 849$ Dec 2012 (+ applecare 99$ + case 125$)

iPhone 5s 649$ Jan 2013 (+ applecare 99$ + case 125$)

iPad mini Retina 499$ Oct 2014 = (+ applecare 99$ + case 89$)

Macbook Pro - 1459.00$ August 2014 (+ applecare 249$ + case 79$)

Applecare = 645$

Cases - 547$

Total = 5937$

We all in the house watched the Live Event several days ago and I put a new iPad on the list, Apple TV and a new mac for buy.

This is not a user issue. Similar to several years ago when apple claimed that it was a user issue that was blowing out the graphics cards. Yes, because obviously the user must have watched one too many movies on the computer and overtaxxed it.

For the same reason I cannnot climb into the computer and use the logic board incorrectly, I also cannot climb over to the other side of the glass and rub the protective coating wrong. Cleaning the glass, that results in the inside anti reflective coating peeling off, which has a functional purpose and thus it is there, is a manufacturing defect. Recognized or not. Accepted or not. Everyone cleans their screens on every computer out there. If one cannot reasonably assume to clean their screen it should be in a museum and not on a shelf for sale. Defintly, not for the pricetag one pays to get an Apple.

People that buy Apple, dont mistreat their items, because if you bought an Apple, you already had to know more about computer care than the average windows user because you had to care where your 1000's, not 100's are being spent. Also most people who buy Apple have to finance and dont take that lightly, so not only are folks genuinly more careful they also have that in the back of their mind too because most times they arent done paying for it. You also, dont spend that kind of money without taking proper care and precautions for care and use of your preciouses.

Cheers.

Thank you for the FYI. I was not aware of that. Of course people rarely become aware of such things unless in passing or until they have an issue and look it up. I am glad nonetheless for your tip. Many Thanks !

get on chat. have a reference to the recall. tell them specifically what you are requesting. They will tell you they are going to transfer you to an Admin. They will review and give the ok for the repair. ask for Mail In repair when they ask you when you want to make an appointment. Two days later a box arrives via FedEx 1 day Air. you follow instructions for packing. Two days later they will send it back to you Fedex 1 day air. In less time than you would normally wait to even get into the store its done. not to mention waiting at the store. mine is on its way back right now. This is how i got it done.

I saw this thread and thought I had exactly the same problem (ie keyboard shaped stains on the screen) - however I rubbed very hard in the stained area with a very mild solution of vinegar and water and I noticed that the stain was coming off - After some vigorous rubbing and polishing with a lint free cloth - I got all the marks off. I am not saying that every case is this but my suggestion is to try an area not in the middle and rub harder than you think you should. I am certain I havent taken off the coating because I only polished where the mark was.

Disclaimer: This is for info only - you do so at your own risk - It just worked for me.

I also have a MacBook Pro Retina 15" Late 2013 that had the anit-reflecting coating peeling off so I took it into Apple and they replaced the screen for FREE. But that was in June of 2016.... the program ended in October of 2016 so I don't know if they will still replace the screen for free. I have had this new screen for 8 months and no problems yet. But talk to Apple it's worth a try!

Hello Apple,

i have the same issue, i bought this 2013 and never repaired or dropped but i saw stain on the screen resulting vertical line on the screen, when i check with alabs singapore they did not even do the diagnosis and told me 850+ estimated price .this is totally unacceptable, i have purshcaed with 2K sgd.

i used this late 2013 macbook pro 13 inch rarely, the battery count is 90 only.

I know its coating issue for macbook retina, can this be free repair by apple itself since they already know the issue about their product.

I am totally disappointed .

Thanks,
