My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

User uploaded file

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

UPDATE

January 24, 2017

To all staingate victims--

Apple has you covered. They know they f'd up big time so they are offering to fix the screens under their "quality program." No warranty needed. It was a manufacturer's defect that took them a while to figure out. Just visit an Apple Store, drop off your MacBook, and you'll have a new, stain-free screen in under a week.

I brought my MacBook Pro into the Manhattan Beach store on Saturday, no hassles. They estimated five business days but probably sooner than that. I have my work laptop in the meantime so it's not too inconvenient.

Hope this puts some of you at ease. Again, just bring your computer in to an Apple Store and they will take care of it free of charge.

Hi Everyone,

I have been facing the same issue with my laptop also. about 4 months after my purchase the spots around the screen start to appear and all around my screen is full of the peeled spots. I took my laptop to service centre and they said the laptop is no longer considered under warranty due to small chipped edges near the mousepad. This is so unfortunate and causing mistrust towards apple and its reputation. I used to be a huge fan of apple. but it seems like apple is losing the QUALITY it used to have. R.I.P Steve Jobs

Well guys! Apple has thought that my question was a poll looool .. how stupid this is!

Guys I just wanted to know how real and legitimate is the announcement.

Tell us please, did Apple deal seriously now with the problem? Did they replace the affected screens? Or still some are suffering? When replaced, what did you do exactly? Brought a copy from the news article? From FB group? From this forum post? What did you exactly do?

Thanks!

User uploaded fileHow can they expect you to spend $2500USD and within 6 months of using it in Barbados (Humid Island in the Caribbean where Rhianna is from) and it ends up looking like it was thrown in the fire, but only the screen got burnt >_<

This is ridiculous and its getting worse! I thought it was my cleaning product THAT I BOUGHT FROM APPLE BTW, but I remember this never happened to my 13 inch Macbook Pro 2009.

When I first noticed it 3 months ago, I took it to an authorized reseller in Barbados and they told me I would have to spend over $300USD to get the whole screen replaced when all I wanted was just the glass.

It should be apples duty to either replace the screen or at least the "money hungry - make you line up outside in the cold because its cool" should make the replacement plexi glass or what ever avaiable for $30 or something

Apparently Samsung and LG made the display panels on these MacBook and MacBook Pro. Have you guys checked who made yours? I mean for the ones that are having problems. Just so we can get to the bottom of whose Retina panels are having problems, whether it'd be LG's or Samsung's.

I think the steps on how to figure out which company made the Retina Panels are listed in one of the forums posts here in Apple.

Yeah, yeah yeah, this has been gone over and over ad nauseum. Take it in for replacement, that is your option. Ranting here and not taking action will do you no good at all. Apple have stated they will replace screens with the problems as posted here by other members numerous times. You can of course keep yours as is and take no action so that you still have something to moan about. Otherwise 'Get It Fixed!!'

Yeah, problem is not all go through 82 pages of postings to find the postings about Apple actually replacing the screens.

Probably not the right place for this suggestion, but I try...

What about having a header for the discussion (coming up on each page) pointing to the fact that Apple offered a replacement program. This would likely stop repeated and no longer required rants ;-)

Not the way that these Forums work. But you are welcome to open your own thread and head it up with the link. Otherwise, just get it fixed and stop crawling over old ground. Thought you'd be happy that Apple have introduced a replacement plan finally. Obviously not. Some people just have to have a reason to whinge, even when they have finally had their requests granted. 😝
