My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

User uploaded file

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

UPDATE

January 24, 2017

To all staingate victims--

Apple has you covered. They know they f'd up big time so they are offering to fix the screens under their "quality program." No warranty needed. It was a manufacturer's defect that took them a while to figure out. Just visit an Apple Store, drop off your MacBook, and you'll have a new, stain-free screen in under a week.

I brought my MacBook Pro into the Manhattan Beach store on Saturday, no hassles. They estimated five business days but probably sooner than that. I have my work laptop in the meantime so it's not too inconvenient.

Hope this puts some of you at ease. Again, just bring your computer in to an Apple Store and they will take care of it free of charge.

NO SCREEN REPLACEMENT FOR ME (and many others I assume).

Most effected screens have been built into the early Retina Macbooks of mid 2012 production. Like mine, bought in July 2012. I miss the deadline by about 3 month, the time it took Apple to recognize and accept the issue.

I'm so **** annoyed about this time limit. If I wouldn't be an iOS developer, it would have been the last Apple hardware bought.

I know "Apple is not here", I still voice my utter disbelieve about this stupid and short sited decision and to make already disappoint Apple customers quite literally fume.

Sorry but you obviously didn't read the whole story/announcement:

Apple will replace Retina displays on affected MacBook or MacBook Pro models for free within three years from the date of original purchase, or one year from October 16, 2015, whichever is longer. Affected customers that have already incurred out-of-warranty costs may be eligible for a refund through AppleCare support.

So I totally understand your frustrations as I was frustrated as soon as this issue appeared on my screen. But lets not scare people away from getting this fixed. Anyone who has this problem contact Apple by October 16th 2016 and you'll be taken care of.

Dear Flexier,

Before you start losing it on this forum, I suggest that you reread the message. The message says that Apple will replace your screen a year from October 16th. In exact words, it said, "The program covers affected MacBook and MacBook Pro within three years from the date of original purchase, or one year from October 16th, 2015, whichever is longer."

You are covered!

Good Luck!

Cheers,

Brother

Bought MB Pro Retina late 2012, issue with defective antireflective coating started early 2014, vent to Premium Sellerer, got answer customer matter, badly use (which were not right). Issue was getting bad early 2015, same procedure and same answer, bought new screen with my own money (€1000). Now warranty out of date (3 years in EU for all electronic devices doesn´t matter what Apple says), did contact Apple Care once more. No refund through them. Just bite a sour apple...

I do hope all customer won´t get my experience of their services.

That would be the problem listening to Social Media petitions. Given time, Apple assessed the situation and are now helping those who were not already being helped through Warranty and AppleCare. Sadly, the radicals who posted here with silly 'fix it this second' rants have been of no assistance to you now that Apple have looked seriously at the issue and offered assistance.

I'll probably get howled down for even responding in this thread again, but my skin is pretty thick and 9 out of 10 rants here have been sour grapes with no technical insight anyway. But que sera sera. 😁

Just wanted to mention how bad Apple act with affected customers with this major issue earlier, thousands of complains since year or two back. Now, suddenly after 3 years since 1st MB Pro Retina they do launch this, notice, "unofficial quality program", nothing Apple will talk "loud" which is poor service. However, all good now even if for high cost 🙂

Not sure where you get your figures from without links, and really not sure what you were trying to say in the rest of your post that was illegible, but, umm cheers

Interesting posting of yours.

This discussion was opened in April 2014. So it took Apple about 18 month !!! to unofficially confirm a problem with one of their products. A problem that can't be easily overlooked or worked around (from a consumer point of view). I would say that the rants here and elsewhere have been pretty rectified.

Here is what a correct reaction would have been (but I know, the "Host is not here"). A simple posting saying something like that:

"Dear Customers,

We know you are frustrated about an issue with the....Be rest assured we are looking into the issue and if we have a precise understanding what the cause is we will offer a solution....

Your Apple Team"

A simple communication like that without any form of admitting anything would have likely appeased most forum members with this issue. But we have been left in the dark with our problem (well, except the few succeeding in getting their screen replaced).

And you Pete, did not help the situation a bit. The fact that you wrote "I'll probably get howled down for even responding in this thread again" means you very well know that you have upset some people even more than they were already.

Matthias

Well, that makes a lot of sense. 🙂 Perhaps try again.

Dear Forum Censors.

I really can't understand at all what Forum rule I broke that would rectify your editing of my previous post replying to Pete. In any case, why aren't you at least try to be consistent and remove the same paragraph from Pete's reply in which he quoted my posting.

Heck, why don't you remove the entire posting. What does it make for a difference?
