Flash Plugin update version 13.0.0.182 not working on iMac

Hello, I am having troubles with the new Flash update today.

The new update that came out today (version 13.0.0.182) is not working on my iMac (Mavericks 10.9.2).

It is crashing on youtube and any other website that uses Flash.

I read on an Adobe forum that many other users are also having issues with this.

I would like to know if this is a problem that other Mac users are experiencing?

Do you think that Adobe will resolve this issue with a new update?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't have any issues with the version. Suspect your problem doesn't have a thing to do with plug-in. More likely your system is messed up.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:

1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the

COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the

computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager

screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

I am having the same issue as Pool man 129 with 13.0.0.182 of flash from Adobe. I have tried all the tactics mentioned in your post (thanks BTW) except #4 because I just can't believe that it will make any difference if I do.

I ca't explain why 13.0.0.182 works for some but since it is not working for many as wel, reinstalling the OS seems a bit drastic to me. I will wait to hear more before that.

If you haven't already, you could try this: launch Adobe Flash Player Install Manager which should be in your Utilities folder. Run the uninstaller to remove all traces of Flash Player from your system. Re-download the latest version from adobe.com/flashplayer and re-install a virgin copy of Flash. It's worked for me in the past when I've had a problem after a Flash update.

This is a known problem, Adobe is working on it:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/416458?tstart=0

(Conveniently, on the 2nd day of the issue Adobe took their forum site down for "maintenance"....)

Meanwhile, the solution is to run the Adobe Flash Player Install Manager app in your Applications >> Utilities folder to uninstall this version (13), and then download and re-install the previous version (12) which Adobe provides at

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_12.0.0.77_a rchive.zip

in the (unzipped) folders

fp_12.0.0.77_archive >> 12_0_r0_77 >> flashplayer12_0r0_77_mac.dmg

At the end of install, select "Never check for updates (not recommended)", or else all your work will be undone within a few hours.

And keep an eye on

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

for a new version higher than 13.0.0.182 to appear which might fix the problem.

While the Adobe forum remains dark, I found something begging for speculation:

The Flash Player 13 Beta release notes file,

http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/shared/air13_flashplayer13_ releasenotes.pdf

says that the System Requirements / Macintosh / Graphics Memory is a whopping 512 MB. If true, it would eliminate the vast majority of Macs made before 2012, and thus a majority of Macs overall. It would also mean that if Adobe wished to continue protecting that majority of one of their largest user bases, they would have to continue security updates for Flash Player 12, and fix the autoupdate logic not to break itself. It would also mean that Flash Player 13 is not performing the necessary memory checks and just crashing instead, which would be a bug.

However, that 512 MB might be a typo -- their generic, non-versioned Flash Player release notes Web page,

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html

says only 128 MB. Which would still eliminate my beloved MacBook2,1 with its 64 MB graphics, but at least it affects a lot fewer users.

Unfortunately I cannot find system requirements specific to Flash Player 12, everything just leads to the same generic page saying 128 MB. Which, if true for Flash Player 12, would make the fact of it working with my 64 MB graphics a mystery.

But as I said, just speculation.

Hi Pool Man- I'm having the same issue with a few drastic suggestions as well. Paul_31 suggested an uninstall of the new version and a re-install of an older one. I'm going to try that. Everything on my system worked fine until I installed the new flash version and it does give an error message of "Plug-In Failure", not "set your computer on fire and start over".

I'll let you know after I find the older version. Stupid Adobe keeping me from Jon Stewart!!!
