Why is there electric static from my keyboard and monitor?

I noticed that I get little electrical statics when my skin comes in contact with my keyboard or monitor.

It's not enough to daze me, of course, but it can be painful and annoying. And I have to be careful when I type so it doesn't zap me.

I've read about it online and it says it has something to do with the ground wiring? I have no idea what this means.

Can someone help me to solve this or has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to overcome it?
