Resetting my iPhone password

i just updated to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s and it is asking me for a passcode i never had before. i googled how to reset it and everything tells me just to 'restore' it but i don't want to delete all the data and i don't think i have an iCloud account!

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1

iOS 7 asks you to create a passcode during setup. It gives you the option to continue without one but it is not prominently displayed.

Most people miss it and add one, which I assume is by design to make it more secure.

Do you remember what you may have entered here?
