Aperture lack of DNG support unfortunate

It's difficult to understand why Aperture does not offer support for Adobe DNG files.

DNG/RAW files are being used by some camera manufacturers that I work with, and they contain a wealth of metadata as well as the broadest range of image data, including "altitude", which is now very useful in my professional work.

This lack of support has forced me to go back to Lightroom, and to reconsider that application as my primary media catalogue and editing application.

Wow, sounds like from the EXIF data they've completely rolled their own camera. That's impressive. (In fact the product itself is pretty **** impressive, definitely got my gadget juices going!)

Have you tried using Adobe DNG Converter to see if there are embedded RAW originals that you can extract back out?

It might still be useful to try this trick.

Taking a look at the camera firmware update files ("firmware.bin") in a hex editor might be revealing too - unfortunately those are only accessible if you're a registered owner of the FC200.

Steve ... *WARNING* *WARNING* If you gadget juices get flowing in the direction of aerial camera platforms (multirotors, drones, quads, UAV's - pick your favorite name) then you will find yourself spending much too much time and money on another hobby. Now if you've got time and instinct for marketing these images, you might encounter a lawsuit by the FCC for selling them at this point. Worst case scenario, you fly your camera up a thousand feet or so and it takes off on a course of it's own choosing and you never see it again!

That's when "Well, you only live once" pops into your head and makes it all better.

Suggestion: If you have kids, and a spouse, tell her that it is to stimulate the childrens interest in aerodynamics, electronics, flight discipline, etc. That might at least get you one craft. Buying the 500.00-2000.00 replacement after the first big crash (and it will come) will require some very creative fast talk!

Rich, I'm suspecting you didn't do something right in the procedure. If Lightroom can read the DNG files then DNG Converter must be able to read them as well. Fundamentally, it's what Lightroom is relying on in its own code.
