Why does my iphone 5c make a shutter sound when I press the on/off button on the top of the phone? This does not happen every time, but I cannot figure out any connection to the times it does occur.

That is not a shutter sound, unless you are taking a screenshot. That is the lock sound. To disable the lock sound go to Settings>Sounds>Lock Sounds, turn OFF.
Chris, the shutter sound occurs when I press the on/off button on the iphone 5c when I am using that function to turn on/off the pnone screen backlight. I am not understanding what you mean by it being a lock sound. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
What I am saying is that you are not hearing a shutter sound, you are hearing the sound the phone makes when i locks. It is supposed to sound somewhat the way a padlock sounds. You can still follow the directions I gave you to turn that off it you wish.
