problem sending emails

Export them to the desktop first.
Finally - thank you ukmonkey - whilst the issue is not resolved it is hugely helpful to know that Apple acknowledge this as a known issue and are working to resolve it. It would be fantastic if you get any updates from the Apple Care team to post on here. Thanks.
In Mail you can set up alternate SMTP servers in Preferences -> Accounts. Your ISP usually provides their own SMTP server, and if you set that up you can choose which server to use when sending mail.
Same with me here. I'm in Moscow and get internet via the local company MGTS. My iPhone is using LTE from local provider MTS and can't send mail as well. I can send via icloud.com and I can send when I VPN into a server located in the US.
I'd guess there are some routing issues going on today - heartbleed, anyone?
Better still, at least for this particular problem at this stage, don't delete the account. It's clear that the problem is associated with a subset of icloud mail users and ISPs, so it's best not to tinker needlessly.
Several people - myself included - have found that switching ISP fixes the problem, but that the problem reappears when switching back to the original ISP.
Actually, icloud.com IS affected. I can't send from anywhere. If I open icloud on my browser it crashes it after a minute. And my visual voicemail isn't available on my phone either.
Very frustrating.
+1 for thanks to ukmonkey; I've also just been speaking to apple and they expect the problem "to be fixed by the morning". I also complained about the status board failing to reflect a problem, and they said they will endeavour to do something about that.
Have tried everything. Mac OS 10.9.2 up to date using BT Infinity. But have not been able to connect any devices and send email with iCloud SMTP server. iCloud webmail works but is a pain. Spoke to Apple this morning and am supposed to hear back tomorrow morning.

I have the same problem which started last night on my iPad and found the same thing with my mac desktop this morning. Can receive emails ok but not send any
PPL, it's on the SERVER END.
Doing anything locally on your Mac, iPhone, iPad is not going to help.
We just have to wait.
Thank you to everyone for keeping on this. I immediately come to this community whenever I have a problem knowing there will be an answer if not a solution. I too, can not send mail via mac/icloud/me.
Am posting here so I'll be included on the thread should any solution/fix come up.

That is the same problem I'm having....cannot send mail through my iCloud account on both my Mac & iPhone...I get the same outgoing server error message. So it sounds like from this thread that it's an Apple problem & they're working on it? I tried restarting the phone, deleting & re-adding the account, everything. Still won't send mail...but I am receiving it. If any of you hear of any resolutions, please let me know!
Apple is aware of problem. Expect full service today.
My work around has been to use iCloud mail on safari
I had the same probiem today in Moscow, Istanbul and now in Bucharest on ALL my devices. Web iCloud works though.
