Mac Pro Late 2013 and Samsung 4k monitor problem

Interesting. I have a New Mac Pro with D300s (low end), and the PB287Q and don't have this problem. Everything actually works great on 10.9.3, 4k and 60hz.

The only thing I did was activate display port 1.2 in the monitor settings (otherwise it was stuck at 30hz).

Maybe this is an issue with the D700s? Someone in a different forum with D700s reported the same problem.

The overrides folder is created by Apple to be used by Apple's graphics drivers. System Preferences uses the graphics drivers.

The files in the overrides folder contain information about displays that are not included in their EDID and/or to override their EDID.

SwitchResX works by modifying or creating a folder/file for your display in the overrides folder.

That sounds like a cable problem to me. Accel makes a good cable: Accell B143B-007J - I've used one with my AMD 7950, and get 60hz without any problems under windows. Under OSX I get the driver problem this thread talks about.

Amazon has them but ship time is pretty large (says 2-4 months, but I think it was about 2-3 weeks for me)

Not affiliated with Accell other than being a happy customer of the above and their mDP -> HDMI 1.4 active adapters.

6-way? What are your other 5 monitors? Try the PB287Q alone first to make sure it works. If it works alone, then try adding one monitor at a time, first to each of the other 2 thunderbolt buses. Then lastly, to the bus the PB287Q is on.

Is your cable Display Port 1.2 compatible? A Display Port 1.1 cable won't work. You could try 50 Hz in SwitchResX by creating a custom timing for the display.

It's the same with the ASUS: you'll have to enable DisplayPort 1.2 in the menus:

Menu : System Setup : DisplayPort Stream : DP1.2 (ou DP1.1)

The tilt/swivell/rotate stand was the reason I chose the Asus.

The EDID contains a serial number which has zero significance. I just decided not to leave someone else's serial number in the override. It shouldn't affect anything if it's in there or not.

Looks like you got the override to work. You got 50 Hz. I guess any resolution that is 50 Hz is labelled PAL.

Remember, the EDID override is only used to get Retina resolutions for the new timing. Before you waste time with the EDID override, you should use SwitchResX to test the custom timings. If you can't get a custom timing to work, then the override EDID won't work either.

Make sure the monitor is set to DisplayPort 1.2 (but I guess you know that since you got it to work in Windows). Here's some pictures of the OSD:

Is the 1080P on the same bus as the PB287Q? Do they both work on the same bus in Windows? Maybe try putting them on different buses.

Post the override EDID you're using, or the timing values of a custom timing you have tested that works and that you would like to see in the EDID.

The monitor was sent in for repair and they say the replaced the whole main board. Samsung admits that there is a compatibility problem with Macs, but I don't know if they mean the tearing or perhaps various issues.

If you have another computer you can connect it to via DisplayPort, I'd start there and see if it works. If not, then it sounds like something just broke with the monitor and you should contact Asus.

My 2015 mac book pro 15 inch retina is pushing dual 4k monitors (samsung u28d590d) at 3140 x 2160 @ 60 hz and man it looks awesome! Actually it's so good that I scaled it back down to 1440 just to fit LESS on the screen!

I spent a lot of time playing around with different configurations and here is how I got it to work.

First, I tried to hook up these monitors using a mini display port to hdmi cable. I quickly learned that the quality was there in terms of image but it could only run at 30hz. As anyone who got to this point realizes- the mouse is jumpy, games suck, and it is generally annoying.

Using the straight hdmi cable is worse and you can only hook up one monitor.

But then- JACKPOT! I came upon a mini display port to display port adapter! That is your ticket!! Get yourself two of those suckers and then use the display port cable into the back of the Samsung and Yahtzee!!

A reasonably priced Mini display port to display port cable will do the trick... It doesn't come with one. You can get them on amazon or a local PC superstore is bound to have one.

What's the EDID of the PB287Q monitor?

Use this command:

ioreg -l | grep "EDID"

Thanks, does your monitor remain blank during boot, or does it display the boot splash and/or FileVault password entry screen. Also, is this the only monitor you have connected?

The only 4k monitor which reliably works with 2013+ Mac Pros is the $3600 monitor they sell on the Apple Store...
