Error loading content

For the past month i have been haveing major issues with accessing anything that i have purchesed in Itunes and accessing it through my apple TV. I have read through forums and seen and done the following trouble shooting tips

1. reboot network

2. reset apple tv

3. restore apple tv

4. sign out and sign back in

5. network testing - and i am running at necessary speeds and it the signal stenghts bar is full.

It has become increasingly frustrating because the 1 of the following problems is what i experince.

1. the content i have selected gets stuck on the loading screen

2. the movie and/or TV show loads and then lags while trying to play and then eventually says that there is an error loading the content

3. immidently shows an error mesage about loading the content.

I am unsure what else to do to resolve this consistant problem. I have also made sure that the software on the apple TV is up to date. I have 2 devices in my house and i am having the same problems on both devices. These playback issues do not show up on any of my other apple devices either. In addition i have ultraviolet which has no connect issues and/or playback issues. On ultraviolet i am playing HD level movies without any issues. I would greatly appricate any feedback as to how i can access my content on my apple TV without haveing to reset, reboot, and restore eveything each time i want to use it.

I assume you used speedtest to verify connection, and it's at least 6mbps

The network test on the device is not an accurate representation. If you have not done so go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a Report of the network.

If you are on wifi try Ethernet

Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)

Thanks for the info and i looked into some of this. I have previously checked the DNS and it is set to automatic on the apple TV.

So i am seeing that my computer knowledge is at maximum capacity. I ahve installed istumbler and it is running and showing me informaiton but i have no idea how to use the information to understand my network. It shows that my signal is about 60-62%. not sure if that is average or not? the other thing that i found weird is that it shows my ntwork listed twice and i cant figure out why. I have an airport extreme hooked up and its software is up to date as well. I have all mac products BTW.

what is most frustrating to me is that the connection problem only occurs when there is media being played from the apple TV in the categories of movies/TV shows/itunes match.

Hulu and netflix work good almost all the time. and again my blue ray players which have movie apps don't have any lagging or connection problems.

60% would be on the low side. How far is the router from the Apple TV? Is the ATV sitting on top of anything? Are there other neaby networks listed?

Netflix and Hulu adapt to the connection. iTunes content is fixed and needs to load a portion before playback beings. If there are issues during playback it will be because of intermittant connectivity within the network that causes it to catch up to the playhead before it can fully load the content.

one of the apple TV's is in the same entertainment stand as the wifi equipment. i would have to say that the 2 apple TV's have similar issues and it doesn't appear that the bedroom one which is further away from the wifi has any different challenges.

yes there are other networks listed most of them are listed as secure and my network is also secure and requires a password.

Not recommended to have it sitting closed in a stand with other wifi devices. The other one would be experiencing issues due to distance. Try using ethernet, changing channels and freuqncies on the router (refer to airport documentation).

Right now the router is probably in dual band mode so that's likely why the network is listed twice.

i appricate the information. I did some changing around of the channels and it seems a little better but i have little faith in how long it will continue to work. i have the airport extreme that is the square white box not the newest one. my internet provider service that i pay for is clocked for 10mbps upload speads and 50mbps download speeds. the istumbler app on my mac shows that the signal level on the 2 networks listed is about 55%. i have no idea if that percentage is equal to the mbps ratings.

Apr 17, 2014 7:43 PM in response to jross2614

Your signal level has dropped, so thats not a good sign. If the 50mbps was recorded using speedtest that would be your current internet connection (if it wasn't then please use speedtest to see an accurate reading).

istumbler is showing your local network connection. Right now there is a lot of interference so that will have an impact, from fluctation in internet to dropped connections, lag etc.

Have you tried ethernet?

Apr 18, 2014 3:42 PM in response to vazandrew

the ethernet as of right now does work alot faster. however the other wifi devices in the room right next to the modem and wifi still does the lagging. and istubler cotinues to show that my signal is inconsisten. for one of the networks listed it it is running as low as 30%. ive tried changing the channel and it hasn't gotten any better.
