Outgoing text messages being sent by my iCloud address?

I just found out that for the past few weeks that when friends get text messages from me (iphone 5), they see only my icloud email address as the sender, not my cell number of my name. Why would this be? I haven't changed any settings. Does this mean my icloud email (which i never use) address is overriding the phone number? Please help. Thanks.
