Streaming issues to Apple TV

I have noticed lately that when I stream movies from my mac mini to apple tv via airplay, the video stutters like it would with a scratched DVD. If I watch it on my mac, it is fine but for some reason it has issues when i airplay it to the tv. I updated software on both devices, have a new router provided by att uverse, everything is on the same network. How can I fix this?
