i can't customize my voicemail greeting
when I try and do a custom greeting, it won't save the greeting and goes back to the default
iPhone 4, iOS 7.1
Don't forget to delete all of your old voice mails. That fixed it for me.

Nothing worked for me except dialing my voicemail directly like everyone used to do back in the day. Then I deleted my greeting. It automatically goes back to default unless you record a new one. It takes a bit longer to do it this way, but it fixed it. Just push and hold the "1" key on the phone keypad and your voice mail should come up. You will need your password for your voicemail before you can make changes.

I have tried all of the suggestions above and still can't save a custom voicemail greeting. seems like such a simple task, I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this bug. Any other suggestions? =)
Tried all of these suggestions. Still can't get voicemail to record greeting. Says it is on custom greeting, won't allow me to play. Won't allow me to switch to default. Suggestions?

This was extremely helpful followed your instructions and worked like a charm, on IOS 9.
I tried all of the other suggestions (turning off Wi-Fi; restarting my phone; clearing VMs) and none worked. Changing my VM password finally resolved it.
I have tried every single one of these suggestions and nothing has worked...any other ideas to avoid having to go to the genius bar?

Thank you so much! I tried every other suggestion on this thread first (I wanted to save a few of the messages), but none of them helped. Deleting all my voicemails was the only thing that worked.
