i can't customize my voicemail greeting

Nothing worked for me except dialing my voicemail directly like everyone used to do back in the day. Then I deleted my greeting. It automatically goes back to default unless you record a new one. It takes a bit longer to do it this way, but it fixed it. Just push and hold the "1" key on the phone keypad and your voice mail should come up. You will need your password for your voicemail before you can make changes.

I tried all the suggestions above (turning off wi-fi, clearing deleted voice mails, powering off, etc) and I still was not able to save my custom greeting. What finally worked was to delete SAVED voice mails (I deleted most, not all). Hope this helps you!

Go to Settings, turn on cellular, turn off wi-fi.

Return to VM, record your greeting.

Go to Settings>Phone>Change Voicemail Password. Enter a voicemail password then click done. Re-enter password then tap done again. Now go to your voicemail greeting and you will be able to edit your greeting.

Along with having my greeting screen frozen I was also not receiving any indication that a call was coming in...no ring, no vibrate, no visual indication on the phone at all. All calls were going directly to voicemail and the greeting was some funky message...maybe it was the default although custom was checkmarked. I also tried resetting, turning off WiFi, checking Do Not Disturb.

HOWEVER...Clearing all my old voicemail messages WORKED!

My greeting feature froze up, too. I could not activate it to change my outgoing message. What worked for me was to turn off the power on the phone, wait a few seconds,and power back on. The greeting feature is now active.

turning off wi-fi didn't do it... So I deleted voicemails, then I cleared all. I still could not record a new greeting, so I turned the phone off, then on again, and that worked--I still had wi-fi on.

Worked! I had to do all of the above, delete saved voice mails, AND turn off wifi, on cellular, and rebooted phone. Took all three but saved me a trip to Apple Store and it is freezing out so thank you all!

I have been trying for hours and gone through every single suggestion and still my phone will not change. It lets me record and play a custom greeting and even saves the one I created, but as soon as someone tries to call me it reverts to the greeting that I made some 8 years ago. I have obviously gotten a new phone since then, so maybe that is causing the issue. Does anyone have solutions for this situation?

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Try it again.

I tried turning Wifi off, I tried resetting. My greeting screen was just frozen.

What eventually worked is going into my deleted voicemails and pushing "Clear All".

It took 20-30 seconds where the phone was frozen, but when it came back my visual voicemail buttons were active again and I could easily record my message.

So I've been trying to change my voicemail greeting, and it seems that as I go to save it, that it has failed to save and now I don't know what else to do.

I tried everything as well and unsuccessful. However, when I deleted all of my voicemails and cleared the deleted voicemail box, it worked immediately without having to restart my phone. Hope this helps!
