Q: How can I remove lps.adwingate.com pop-up ads Virus from my Mac?

I have a pop-up which is called adwingate on my Google Chrome and sometimes on my Safari, and I don't know how get rid of it.

I tried to to search on the web of how to remove it, but I can find just removable for PC users and not Mac users.

I hope someone can tell me how to remove this pop-up which is very annoying on my Mac.

I need simple steps of how to remove this pop-up/adware from my Mac, because as I know Mac users didn't get infected by such scams, but it started only recently.

I bought an iMac because they said Macs dont get infected by pop-ups or ads and now it got infected which is really annoying, I hope someone could tell me how to get rid of it soon and in easy steps.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

You have inadvertently installed malware on your Mac, most likely Genieo by accidentally clicking on a pop up.

I have the same virus. I erased everything from Genieo I believe (manually and with the Bitdefender anti virus and also the safari and google chrome genieo extensions), but the pop up ads still appear! What should I do?a.jpeg

Very annoying pop-ups and slow browsing, caused by lps.adwingate.

I have the same problem since yesterday. Instaled Ginieo; so that must be the cause.

I run now Sophos (just half way), but not yet detected any malware.

    Apple: please help!

This is not a known symptom of Genieo, which behaves in different ways. You probably have some other kind of adware installed... perhaps installed alongside Genieo, which is often found installed in conjunction with other adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help identifying and removing it.

Help here >  Remove Search.InstallMac.com from Safari MAC OS X

If that doesn't help, try here > Remove Search.InstallMac.com from Safari MAC OS X

Carolyn, those are exactly the same link. Not only that, but as I've told you time and time again, that site does not offer proper removal instructions. It relies on the InstallMac uninstaller, which is known not to work properly, and to even install components that were not already present in some cases! See:

    InstallMac uninstaller antics

I'm completely mystified as to why you persist in giving this very bad advice!

These instructions are too hard for me, isn't there an easier way? Or an antivirus you could recommend?

Antivirus software is not a decent solution to removing adware. Most adware is only identified as malicious, or a "potentially unwanted application," by some anti-virus apps, and even when it is identified, removal tends to be spotty. Most anti-virus software won't remove all components.

I've worked hard to make the instructions in my Adware Removal Guide as easy as possible. If the instructions are too difficult, you will need to seek assistance from a more tech-savvy friend who can help you follow them, or a local tech who can help you with the problem.

I agree with mvcbc, the instructions too hard and need an easier way.

You are infected with the VSearch, aka DownLite, adware. Removal instructions are here:

    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-downlite/

Note that Dr. Web has not located all the components of this adware, according to your screenshot above.
