How can I remove lps.adwingate.com pop-up ads Virus from my Mac?

I have a pop-up which is called adwingate on my Google Chrome and sometimes on my Safari, and I don't know how get rid of it.

I tried to to search on the web of how to remove it, but I can find just removable for PC users and not Mac users.

I hope someone can tell me how to remove this pop-up which is very annoying on my Mac.

I need simple steps of how to remove this pop-up/adware from my Mac, because as I know Mac users didn't get infected by such scams, but it started only recently.

I bought an iMac because they said Macs dont get infected by pop-ups or ads and now it got infected which is really annoying, I hope someone could tell me how to get rid of it soon and in easy steps.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

PLEASE NOTE....

I WAS HAVING THE VERY SAME ANNOYING PROBLEM on SEPT112014 as listed below AND TOOK A LOOK HERE FOR SOME SUGGESTIONS, its quite tricky as there doesn't actually appear to be a name for it , just only symptoms. Which were annoying 'random' pages that popped up every time you searched at google or when you were opening a further page on the correct chosen site. The sites you are often dragged to are betting sites or just annoying 3rd party sites, usually totally unrelated to what you have typed into your Google search.

I READ THROUGH ALL THE SUGGESTIONS HERE BUT THIS ONE SEEMED MOST SIMILAR, I FOLLOWED THE LINK BELOW....IT WAS ALL VERY EASY TO FOLLOW (FOLLOW EXACTLY) AND WORKED FOR ME.... THANK YOU thomas_r PROBLEM SOLVED.

You are infected with the VSearch, aka DownLite, adware. Removal instructions are here:

Note that Dr. Web has not located all the components of this adware, according to your screenshot above.

How did that file get there? Were you following my manual removal instructions for removing Downlite (aka VSearch)?

What is in your trash? Open the Terminal (found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder) and paste in the following command:

ls -al ~/.Trash

Then, still in the Terminal, choose Edit -> Select All, then Edit -> Copy and then paste that into a new message here.

here you go.

I used the Adware Medic and it found a lot. I was emptying out the Trash and this is the only "file" that will not delete

ls -al ~/.TrashLast login: Wed Dec 10 13:37:58 on ttys000

Stephen-Lewiss-MacBook-Pro:~ stephenlewis$ ls -al ~/.Trash

drwxr-xr-x+ 43 stephenlewis staff 1462 10 Dec 11:23 ..

-rwxr-xr-x 1 stephenlewis staff 212800 3 Dec 06:05 WebSocketServerApp

That is not something that AdwareMedic put there. Everything that AdwareMedic removes gets put into a folder in the trash called "AdwareMedic Removals". I don't know how it got there, or what that is.

That executable file is still running, which is why you can't empty the trash. Restart your computer and that should take care of that problem, allowing you to empty the trash.
