Repair requested... No trouble found (21-Aug-2006)

I sent my 60G Color iPod in for service last week. It was not booting up. I got the Apple logo, then very quickly the battery icon flashed (1/3 sec.) and then the sad folder icon.

I assumed it was the battery, so I charged it for 3 hours, still got nothing, reset it, still nothing. It was not being recognized by the PC, so I couldn't restore it.

Their service diagnostics reported:
No trouble found (21-Aug-2006)
Original product shipped (21-Aug-2006)

What I want to know is, When I recieve my iPod back, will it work? I will be highly upset to know that I put another $30 into this worthless piece of equipment.

I'm eagerly awaiting Micro$oft's answer to the iPod.

Hi,

Just thought I would share my experience with you.

I sent my U2 iPod back to Apple on Wednesday 16 August 2006, it was collected by courier (who kindly waited whilst I prepared the package and then took it straight from me), shipped to Holland and returned by Friday 18 August. Whilst I am not sure exactly what the problem was I was amazed to find that Apple had sent me a brand new U2 iPod.

I am hard pushed to think of any more they could have done or any way they could have acted more quickly.

I hope you receive the same standard of service, I would love to hear how things turn out.

With the greatest respect, how on earth will anyone
here know the answer to that?

Why not wait until it comes back and then post here?

Yea, common sense would tell me to wait, but I was just wondering from others experience... If anyone ever shipped theirs out to Apple, only for them to say there's nothing wrong. Did they at least run diagnostics - I would think that no problems found would mean they didn't have to "operate".

Well, they will thoroughly test it of that there's no doubt. If you look around these forums you'll see reports of folks who've had the "no trouble found" and received a working iPod back from Apple. Then there are those who don't and are dissatisfied.

I have a theory about this (and it's just a wild guess). Apple will test possible faulty iPods on a Mac. iPods work best of all on a Mac, just look at the posts to see that it's Windows users experiencing the most issues. So, it's more likely they wont find a fault.

This is not to start a flame between Mac and Windows users, it's just theory on my part (and very probably wrong!!).
