I am not 100% sure about the IOS mabe 6.... passcode, unfortunately Not on that one.
what I do not understand is that my wife avised me as soon as she noticed the phone was gone. Then I actived the Find my Iphone.
Find My iPhone must be enabled on the phone BEFORE you lose it.
Yes, Templeton, the lost Phone had it registered as it has to be. I mean that I activated on the other device to find it. but never showed up.
Thank you
Then I actived the Find my Iphone
As Chris said, you need to set up Find My iPhone on the iPhone before you lose it.
... nothing happened for hours, days, weeks
Assuming you did set up Find My iPhone on the phone before it was stolen, it may have been turned off or run out of battery power. Or again, the thief may have immediately restored the iPhone. As I said, a thief who knows anything about iPhones isn't going to run around with a stolen iPhone without at least turning it off.
SO you mean I should have erased it immediately? but if you do, no tracking possibility.
No, that's not what I said.
Now lets learn and prevent for the others I still have. what is your recomendation to do once it happen?
Set up Find My iPhone now, before the devices are lost or stolen. And make sure you have a screenlock passcode set. Then test with Find My iPhone in iCloud to make sure the devices are registering correctly. Then, should you lose a device or have it stolen, as soon as you know it's missing go into iCloud and see if you can get a location. If the device was lost, look in that location. If the device was stolen, give that location information to the police.
Whether you choose to want to continue to track it, or feel that the risk to your data is sufficient so as to cause you to want to erase the device even knowing that you can then no longer track it, will be up to you.
