We're also experiencing this issue (apple tv 1). I'm able to pull content from itunes, but not from the ATV directly. We were able to watch an episode of the wire (an hour long), but watching a movie (closer to 2 hours) causes stuttering in playback. I also noticed that when your cursor is sitting on "My Movies", the title images that appear on top sort of flip on and off, like it's constantly refreshing -- in between refresh is show the generic film reel image, as if it can't find the image that represents the movie. I'm glad to hear it's all over the place--I thought I'd ****** up my machine somehow. Hopefully they'll push out an update to resolve this. Strange -- I still can't access iTunes, or Netflix (NYC) through ATV, or even my computer files but I'm not having a problem with access through my Panasonic's built-in apps, just the ATV. A restart doens't solve the issue, but I'm going to wait a bit before doing a factory reset. Looking at the firestorm here, it seems to be a widespread issue.

I have been working on this for the past day or so. I own an Apple TV 1st Gen and have always love the fact that I can download item on the hard drive without having iTunes running on the computer. I ordered "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and it worked on 4/16 just fine. The next day I was trying to watch some other movies that I have downloaded on my iMac. When I went to the MOVIES tab, the only items that appeared were "My Movies" and "Trailers". I attemted to see if there was a connection between the Apple TV and iTunes...nope. I couldn't watch any tailers.

I have done the following...

Factory Restore

Run Diagnostic

Reset

I have even though of just running off of the original 1.0 software, but my Apple TV wasn't authorized to play some of the movies. The HD movies couldn't be copied over on the 1.0 system. (I have made some of my own HD movies, and it wouldn't store on the hard drive.)

Frustrated and hoping that Apple will make an update (hopefully).

I'll join the group- I'm one of the first adaptors. Still have ATV1 been working fine, haven't upgraded since my high end Sony Plasma pre-dates HDMI and component working fine. Experiencing the same as everyone else. Did all the resets (including back to factory and starting all over). Diagnostic said it working fine (isn't)

With this many posts I'm surprised Apple hasn't chimed in to at least tell us there is a problem and when they would have it fixed instead of leaving everyone in the dark. Is there any place on the support page that you can on status of ATV?

Where's Apple support when you need them, I thought they monitored the discussion pages?

Frustrating to say the least

Same issue observed. ATV 1st generation without access to iTunes store; sluggish reaction on remote; annoying, constant refresh of movie and TV show covers; massive glitches during playback of HD movies.

Unfortunately, I thought these were my individual problems and I reset my ATV, but this did not help at all.

My ATV 3rd gen works just fine.

Let's see whether Apple comes up with a solution for a problem that it might have caused in the first place.

As I have been dealing with this crap for 10 hours now trying a work around to get my streaming from itunes on my pc through my ATV gen1 (either 1) with blocking internet traffic and allowing just wi-fi, with no luck, I give up. APPLE HAD BETTER GET THIS FIXED TONIGHT. OVER IT!!!!! .................... CAN SOMEBODY BE SO KIND TO POST WHEN THIS IS UP AND RUNNING FOR THEM. I will do so also. Cheers.

I just got off the phone with Apple and it is a know issue. According to the person I talked to the engineers (or software designers) are working on it. The customer service representative stated that access to iTunes from the ATV is being blocked for some reason. He also stated that "hopefully" the problem will be resolved within the next 48 hours. So, perhaps by Monday the 1st Generation Apple TV's will have access to iTunes and the device will work properly.

Crossing my fingers!

Thanks v much for contacting Apple on this, and being able to get through to them.

It's good to know they are now addressing the issue.

Perhaps the system works (i.e. this kind of forum)!

Somebody else asked if the loss of Internet Radio is also part of this.

I'm not sure about that as mine went a week or so before the iTunes store problem.

I think it is a content server issue though as it is only the list of radio stations that no longer shows.

If you create a playlist of them from your computer and sync that to the ATV they all play fine.

Hello georgevargas,

As i mention and commented above the tread i do have 4 Apple TV 1st gen all of it are having the same issue and even all kinds of solution that we think may work its suck! nothings happen.. so i did tried to use 2nd and 3rd generation apple tv as i have also 2pcs 2nd gen atv and 1 3rd gen atv and from the day my 1st generation atv stopped working i use the 2nd and 3rd gen apple tv.. and you know what everything works perfectly fine and take note last night they even send a new updates for this devices... i preffer to use the 1st gen atv because it have a harddrive that can store my series and watch later on even without internet connection but now i dont have any other choice than to use my 2nd and 3rd generation apple tv.. and i wonder why until now after 3 days of the same problem no one from apple company have come up with a solution, is it because the company are getting weaker and weaker now since the day Steve Jobs past? i hope not.. i hope they will find a solution for these problem.. i hope some one here can see and read this and reported this to there support team.. if they need a sample device i dont mind to give mine for xampling...

unable to see top movies search and other functions. I can see the photos and tv shows I have saved on apple tv but can not see the iTunes store.
