that's good news the're working on it... if it's failing to play locally stored contents and it works fine when not connected to internet it's probaby something related to the connection with itunes store, that is, apple tv is using all available resources trying to connect with itunes store (all cpu).... that's why we can't even access trailers anymore.. that's why it keeps refreshing the icons, just like it's not working properly.

I have mine for 7 years now, it has been worth any cent I've paid for it.

I sincerely don't believe apple would deliberately cut 1st generation users from itunes store.... makes no sense, eventually everyone will want to upgrade to 3rd or 4th gen (whatever) to get access to other contents...

today is another holiday in Brazil so it's the 4th day without access to itunes... fortunately my girlfriend has a 3rd generation, so it wasn't so bad at all...😉... I've just tried, still not working, but I'm pretty sure it will come back soon!

They send a new update for the 2nd generation ATV.. Sorry for the late reply.. The changes is that you can now rearrange your movie icons in a way you want it,, you can also hide some menu icon that you dont want to see in home menu like bloomberg, wsj, weather or all of them.. You can live only the movie, tv shows and youtube just like the 1st gen ATV.. Simple and clean..i read some tread above that the apple already fixing the issue.. We all hoping that they are correct.. They said said within 48 hours the 1st generation ATV can access the Itunes once again.. Lets hope for the best and lets monitor it... Good luck.. I wanted to say thank you all guys for the support in this tread at least because of this discussion we sent our issue up the right persons... Good luck!

I'm in the USA, just got off the phone with Tech Support. Again they "are working" on it. Said there was a delay due to the Easter Holiday. Primarily ATV1 inability to connect to iTunes for some reason, but a few ATV 2-3 are affected as well. According the tech guy Apple won't purposely stop support, but older items (ATV1) do have an end-of-life that they will no longer support (5-7 yrs). It may still work, but it will be phased out. I hope they send out a notice so we don't one day find out it won't work.

Not much else to do but to wait. No easy way to look at Apple outages or problems they are working on, just trial and error by try ATV periodically to see if it works. I'll give it another 24-48 hr and see.

I will eventually migrate to the newest ATV, but I invested in a high end plasmaTV and A/V without HDMI (the year before it came out). With the newer ATV2-3 being HDMI only there is no easy work around for the encrypted code to play movies via a component converter --> HDMI

Let's hope they figure it out soon...

I am having the same problem since trying to access the iTunes store yesterday on my Apple TV 1st gen. I have spent the better part of today rebooting, factory restoring, etc. etc, and still no iTunes store access on my Apple TV. This is terrible and I really hope that we aren't being phased out in such a "cold hearted" way!

I look forward to hearing any new news real soon.
